Faceoff: Inside the NHL on Amazon Prime
Didn't see a thread started yet, and the series came out today.
I made it through Episode 1 so far; Nylander seems like a cool dude.
There's a spoiler-filled recap of the entire season available on The Athletic:
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/581...l-documentary/
Quote:
So the greatest player on the planet walked into the silent dressing room and sat at his stall, staring into the middle distance, trying to hold back the flood. On his left, Leon Draisaitl reached over and grabbed McDavid’s left leg and patted it. On his right, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins put his arm around him. And that’s when it all landed — the grind, the work, the blood, the sweat, the fears. All of it adding up to one goal short of glory. And he couldn’t hold it back anymore.
McJesus wept.
At that point, a voice rang out, “Get the f—ing cameras out of here.”

Really looking forward to the Oiler tears in Episodes 5 & 6!

This narrative that they were "One Goal" away from the Cup.
Erm, they were one goal away from tying it. That wouldn't win them the cup.
Who comes up with this stupidity?

I prefer to look at it this way - they were one lottery ball away from many seasons of lottery balls

If you're going to yell can you at least sound intimidating doing it? Mcdavid comes across as a bratty child with that whine, not a strong leader.
Not that yelling is a good form of leadership, but if you're going to do it do it right.

Yesterday on TSN, Corrado was saying McDavid is the best or one of the best leaders in the NHL in response to the video

Can't stand it when reporters/analysts/talking heads spew the preset narrative, instead of speaking their minds.

Of course while interviewing another player they would have to bring up his name, ###### not being stupid gave the nhl league response, or he probably would get jumped by some doofus like Nurse.

That's a very different situation. You stick a camera in a player's face and ask him a question about another player, and of course he's going to praise them - 'yeah, he's a great leader' - because he would be crucified for anything else.

After watching episode 4, I thought that Trouba actually came off pretty charming? And kind of funny?
Wait--do...do I like Jacob Trouba now?

I skipped ahead to the final two episodes for the salty Oilers tears. I was not disappointed.

Wasn't aware of this series, so thanks for the post! Watching episode 1 now and I'd agree, Nylander is very likable. Any player who is down with taking the TTC to the rink for game day is all good in my books! Love seeing the different local spots in Toronto too. Does anyone know if the Flames are featured at all in this series?

That's what I thought. Then 1Nite's post implied it was Coronato, and I was very confused.
