News Roundup

Seeking homestand sweep, high-powered Golden Knights to face Flames

The Golden Knights own the best home-ice record in the NHL (6-0-0), outscoring their opponents 34-16 in the process. Vegas has scored six or more goals in four of the six wins, including the past three in a row, a franchise record.

What Rasmus Andersson’s hot start to the season could mean for his future with the Flames

There were reports before the season kicked off that if the season did begin to go sideways, we could see Andersson moved for more future assets. With how well the season has begun for both the team and Andersson as an individual, I don’t anticipate those rumours catching fire again.

Lottery watch: Flames starting to slide in the Pacific Division standings

After sitting alone atop the Pacific Division one week ago, the Flames are now in third place in the division behind the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings, with the surging Vancouver Canucks just one point back with one game in hand.

Beyond the Boxscore: Bad penalties and bad bounces abundant in Flames’ loss to Jets

It’s a Team Game – The Calgary Flames got a lot of fortunate bounces in this game. Then again, so did the Jets. It all started when Mikael Backlund clapped a shot from the goal line off Winnipeg goaltender Eric Comrie in the first minute.

Need some goals 5 on 5 from the forwards. The Flames still look like a competitive team against good opponents so hopefully the bounces go their way tonight in LV. Go Flames!

Great OP as always, but man, how have I just recently noticed how terrible the Win Column is? Terrible writing, and at one point I was staring at a single, two sentence paragraph nearly crowded out by four giant ads.

The Flames could really use this win to prove that this start isn't an illusion. Send a message to the division that they are for real. Hard fought losses are fine if they don't pile up.

Also, if I am staying up until almost 1:00am here in Ontario, make it worth my while, LOL.

Go Flames!

If they can stop taking stupid unnecessary penalties they should be able to win. As bad as the refs are, some of the flames players, after years of playing hockey, have not learned how to not take penalties!

I don't think we can properly assess what we have with the Flames until about the 20 game mark.

A win or loss tonight will likely mean very little in regards to the overall perception of the team.

Lose 2 games and we’re on a slide.

Send down a prospect so he can build his game and “fans” are “outraged”.

Talk about fickle.

We know what they are - a rebuilding club that has had a hot start. The last couple of games are exactly what I was expecting this year - a competitive, quick team that will come out on the wrong side of a lot of games. They will still be a fun watch even if they are destined to finish in the 25-32 range.

That site is truly awful. The content would have to be pretty compelling to make it worth navigating all of the ads and nuisances

The bad news: Flames are 2-9-0 all time, in Vegas

The good news: they have won 2 of the last 3

In their first 7 trips there, they were 0-7-0, outscored 34-11. But in the last 3, they are 2-1-0 with a 14-8 goals advantage.

So I guess there is hope.

Game #999 for Mikael Backlund, next game #1000.

It's been a real treat watching him play all these years, I remember a time when he was labeled an injury prone bust.

Way to go Backs!

Go Flames Go!

In past seasons, where the Flames were able to actually start strong, they'd eventually end up stringing a bunch of losses together, wiping out their good starts. Tonight's not a must win, but it's super important I think for their heads that they get a win tonight, even if it comes in extra time. The good thing is they've been playing well in their three losses, so there's a good chance they do that tonight, go Flames!
