Flames promote Peter Hanlon to an Assistant General Manager

The Calgary Flames announce today that Peter Hanlon, formerly Vice President of Communications with the club, will join the hockey operations department as an Assistant General Manager.
“Peter has worked in professional hockey for over 30 years,” said President of Hockey Operations Don Maloney. “His knowledge and experience are a welcomed addition to our staff”.
“Peter will be involved in all areas of hockey operations including player evaluation, player recruitment and strategic planning,” said General Manager Craig Conroy. “Together with Assistant General Managers Dave Nonis and Brad Pascall, Peter will help us pursue our goal of bringing the Stanley Cup back to Calgary”.

Nice promotion for Hanlon. Maybe the players just love this guy and they want him as part of the team pitching players on the franchise?

Conroy is probably overworked and needs someone to dump some responsibilities on, or maybe Peter Hanlon has already been bearing extra responsibilities and this is just a true up.
Conroy has worked with him for a long time and from this move, obviously trusts him. Probably not the best candidate on paper, but that's what trust gets you sometimes.

I think player recruitment is a key part of that title that probably correlates with what Hanlon did today.
Lots of relationship building and trying to make lives easier for people in Hanlon's current role.
