Default Better get those Abortions while you still can!

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/....ap/index.html

To already add some fuel to his questional writings on the subject, someone was able to find this Memo written 20 years ago about Abortions.

This, coupled with Justice Roberts appointment to the court could very well have the judicial fire power to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

If you overturn abortion (which is getting to be a very real possibility) despite what you think of it, is going to have dire consequences.

If someone wants an Abortion, they'll be getting one. Either at an illegal clinic or in an alley.

While I truly believe that Abortion is not a contraceptive and should not be used as such... there has to always remain a legal and accessible method of abortion for those who truly need it (rape victims, danger to the mother's life, etc.) I don't understand why there has to be only the two extremes.

I think abortion should definitely be legal. That said, I totally understand the point of view that people should not be using abortion as an 'easy' way to avoid (or not take responsibility for) using contraceptives.

I think a combination of educating the heck out of young people on condom/birth control use is one way to combat this... maybe also making abortions very expensive for those not needing it for medical/rape reasons? If it costs someone $500 to get an abortion because they were irresponsible, maybe it will prevent them from making the same (expensive) mistake next time?

Though, I'm a hypocrite on the issue. While I believe in abortion, I'm also _really_ glad I wasn't aborted. When you think that any of us could just as easily not be here with a quick procedure... I guess I'm not comfortable with that aspect. It's not murder... but it's 'close'. I'm sure I'll be beaten to death on this issue

I believe Roe v. Wade will never be overturned. People forget that even though Supreme Court Judges have their own biases, when they don those robes, they have been trained their entire lives to value the objective view of the law. It is not for them to legislate from the bench.

When Alito worked for the Reagan Justice department, he was working as a lawyer for the interests of a political office. When you are a lawyer working for an administration, that elected government and it's interests are your client. It was his job to analyze the conservative objectives of the Reagan Administration and provide legal counsel toward achieving those goals.

The two are very different things.

Killing a human being is wrong! We should not be doing God's work for him! Abortion is murder. MURDER!

I very much doubt that roe vs Wade will be overturned its too much of a political time bomb, and is considered to be a key Litmus test when selecting a supreme court judge.

I think abortion rights are safe

Shutup. Maybe try contributing something, hey?

I am all for a women's right to choose, but I also agree with above posters, like Agamemnon. We need education to ensure people don't use abortion as a convenience thing or as a contraceptive. Pro-choice and Pro-life have polarized this issue to such an extent that there is no middle ground anymore.

Fotze's pic sums it up for me.

I found it a lot easier to be pro-choice before I met my son. I still am intellectually, but it makes me ill.

Disagreeing with my political beliefs doesn't give you the right to attack me.

I didn't attack anybody here.

Abortion stops a beating heart. It really is murder in my opinion. It breaks my heart.

Where is the fear-mongering? Saying the guy wants to overturn Roe vs Wade and producing documents supporting this is not fear-mongering, it's the truth.

Hope you are right.

But I mean in the confirmation hearings you can barely get a sense of what their political views actually are, hell, there is barely enough information about Justice Roberts, apart from he is considered conservative. You just don't know.

I wish those guys would put themselves out there a little more.

I am pro-choice, support a woman's right to choose, but agree that stiffer education is needed in regards to contraception and how to use it effectively. For instance a friend of a friend just had one and she didn't realize it, but when you mix antibiotics and the pill you lessen the effectiveness of the pill greatly, thus, unwanted pregnancy.

If Roe v. Wade was ever overturned, it would mark the beginning of the black market abortion, and that is far scarier than legal, federally controlled abortion.

EDIT: I also have to laugh at the people who are so against abortion, yet support the death penalty....Ooooookay.

I'm pro choice... I choose to hunt, fish, trap, eat meat and wear fur. I also think that abortion (arbitrary abortion... y'know, the kind that occur after grad night and stupid descisions) has no place in a civilized society (read: sans capital punishment).

We seem to live in an age and place where accountability is no longer forefront. Abortion is the epitome of not being accountable.

Before I get flamed, let me also add that rape victims or mother's life in jeapordy should have the procedure available. I suppose this opens a bit of a pandora's box.

Abortion is not a form of contraception.
