Good deal. Important player for the Kraken.

Solid contract. Given his age and performance, this just strikes me as an oddly fair contract - kind of like the Toffoli deal when he signed it with Montreal.

Decent value contract by Seattle. Takes McCann out of the list of players available at the deadline.

I suspect the lifestyle in Seattle and the stability meant something to him. He probably also feels like an important cog in the team and management likes him. That's a good situation to be in.

Somebody has to score the goals... reminds me of 1992-93 Expansion Tampa team - Chris Kontos with 27 and Brian Bradley with 42...

Good for McCann to capitalize on the situation.

If you're a guy who's bounced around a bit and then find yourself as a key piece for a team, that's got to be worth a lot. Looks like a good deal for both sides.

I’d say this deal is a pretty good comparable for Mangiapane.

Spectacular contract for a very good all around centre.

Shows that stability and lifestyle can trump winning for some players.

I heard at the start of the season that players were a bit shocked as to how expensive Seattle is. So I might guess that although it's not a small market overtaxed Canada premium on that contract that there's still a few extra dollars a place like Tampa, Nashville, or Florida would not pay.

Guy seems to have been under appreciated and tended to be the best guy traded in all of his deals so far. In hindsight...you sure wish the Flames would have paid the price to acquire him instead of Pitlick and leave Monahan exposed in the expansion draft. Fart the Leafs might wish they would have kept him too.

Not that much choice as an RFA. McCann has been trending up, but his career numbers to date are generally worse than guys like Domi or Galchenyuk had in the same spans (examples of how quickly things can go sideways). 4 years might have been a bit better for him, but smart to take the money/term now IMO.

A bit of a strange move by the Kraken. They aren't making the playoffs anytime soon. Instead of trading him for a haul of futures, they decided to re-sign him.

That said, I'll be very glad if this contract is used as a guideline for signing Eatbread to a long term deal.

Would have looked nice on our third line this season. Could totally see why Seattle would want to keep him though. Sad day but expected.

He could have gone shorter term. However, players get attracted to that total number (they don’t think AAV IMO).

Players want to achieve financial security on their second contract.

Once they get that, they tend to roll the dice on their third contract.

I expect that Johnny and Tkachuk would already be signed if their bank account wasn’t already full.
