I don't think they're supposed to blow it dead for a glove or other equipment issue besides a mask until the goalie's team gets possession of the puck. Which I'm not sure I agree with actually. If the goalie has no blocker I'm shooting there. If he tries to stop it with his hand it could break his hand. There's still injury risk. But then as I type this, it occurs that it would be pretty easy for goalies to, er, strategically lose their equipment if that was the rule, so maybe not. I don't know.
