The Flyers are going to bleed goals with that D, they better pray Hart takes that next step.

Yandle replaces Gostisbehere at a fraction of the cost.

Also, to the person that suggested signing Yandle for $4-5M, well, here we are.

They have paid a steep price, but they set out to change the entire makeup of that dcore, and have done so this offseason.

I'm definitely still not in love with it on paper, but credit for having the balls to make unpopular moves to try to address a pain point.

For 900k, why not.

I was hoping to see Ellis or Risto on the top PP, but this is cheap for depth and a potential PP upgrade.

What a crazy shakeup.

Ellis : A
Ghost: C
Atkinson: A
Risto: F
Yandle: B

Only losing Twarynski: A

-Seattle could've gotten Atkinson, essentially, instead of Twarynski. Or a 2nd+7th+Ghost. or JVR. They really bungled that pick.

-risto only has one year left, so that trade has a cap on how bad it can be. Hoping they don't extend him until/unless he shows positive signs in Philly.

-interesting that Ellis, risto, Atkinson, yandle all wore an A. I do wonder if that is intentional, and wanting to create a different vibe in the locker room. Giroux, Voracek, Hayes are very laid back types. Provorov, Couturier are not especially vocal.

I’m no Yandle fan but this is a super low risk signing.

Philly06Cup... are those grades beside the players?

If so, Risto is better than Ghost and Yandle (who are probably both Ds)

I suspect that you are going to like Risto a lot more than you currently do - he has warts, he does stupid things, but he is better than Ghost. And has more tools.

Really no downsides here. If the powerplay struggles you insert him in the lineup and play him sheltered minutes.

think he's grading the moves, not the players. Think it's reasonable grades too, even though I'd bump Yandle up to an A even. I mean, it's a one year deal for less than a million, what could even go wrong here?

Those would be my grades.

I see this more as a depth move that doesn't move the needle. Cam York should be ready next year.

Ristos metrics are bad. Teammates play better without him. They gave up a lot of assets to get him. That is one very expensive lottery ticket Fletcher is banking on.

And Tanev had terrible metrics in VAncouver, and teammates' numbers were worse with him. But in a better environment, he is an absolute stud.

Not saying Risto will be a stud, but if Philly can put him in a better environment than Buffalo did (should be pretty easy), he could flourish. He had ALL the tools. Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs.

He had Barkov, Huberdeau, Hornqvist and an assortment of other forwards and by far was the weak link on the Panthers' PP, while being responsible for multiple SHG against.

He sucks. I'd rather throw Chris Tanev out there on the PP.

It was. Fletcher came out and said he targeted players who would change the energy in the room. That the team had gotten stale.

The word around the league was that the Flames braintrust feels the same about this core. And yet here we are.
