Seattle will take G Chris Driedger and sign him to a 3x$3.5 mil deal

Decent up-and-coming goaltender. First dibs before he hits the open market.

I thought they would be able to scoop a decent roster player off of Fla, I can’t see why they’d take an UFA when there should be a good player to be had, seems like a bit of a waste IMO.

Um, OK. ‘All signs point to’ it… can you name one, M. LeBrun?

OK, but that sign doesn't actually point. It needs an arrow.

It sounds like something a margic 8-ball would say.
Can’t Seattle negotiate with free agents before other teams anyway?

They are officially allowed to negotiate once the protection lists have been approved by the NHL.
But the Panthers probably already gave them permission to talk to Driedger so they could expedite the process because they weren't keeping Driedger regardless with Bobrovsky and Knight.

Beginning Sunday at 10:00 ET is when their official window opens but others have said it has opened earlier.

It would make more sense to use the window to get him to agree to sign, but then select someone else. Sign him on July 28th.

It could happen that Seattle selects as many as 5 G's and then plays the bidding war game with other clubs who need one.
There will be a ton of movement at that position in the next couple weeks.

Makes perfect sense to me. Driedger wrestled away the starting job from Bobrovsky, and that wasn't easy considering how much the franchise invested in that contract. He's a pretty good blocking style goalie, but he does have some ability to make athletic saves. Very, very solid player who bloomed late. Seattle will be very happy with him.

This seems like wishful thinking. Panthers aren't going to be able to re-sign him anyway. So why not just take a roster player? Kraken get a head start on UFA signings, too.

You need two goalies and Price is might be on LTIR for the first few months.
It won't be any different than what the Habs have been doing for the past 2 years.

Seattle would not be able to trade Price without his consent either.

True, though I bet he'd go cup hunting, especially if Seattle isn't a good team. The Bruins may have one more shot.
