Flames Is It Time to Split Up Johnny & Mony?

Seems like it absolutely is time to split them up. They look nothing like the duo that took the league by storm in '18-'19. The magic has dried up, and they aren't producing the way the team needs them to. Case in point, Mony's points/game pace this season is the worst of his career with the exception of his rookie year. Johnny's points pace this year is the worst of his career.

I think Johnny would benefit greatly from being paired with Lindy. Johnny has the most goals on the team this year, and Lindy has the most assists on the team. Pairing them up seems like a logical thing to do.

Furthermore, Chucky has twice as many assists as he has goals this year, which would suggest he's more of a set-up guy than a scorer. Put him on a line with Monahan and see if they click.

Yes please, although I think Tkachuk and Monahan are to slow to pair together.
Monahan to the third line to center Lucic and Dube.

Split them up by trading Monahan.

What a nightmare situation it would be to deal Johnny and keep Monahan, then give Monahan a contract.

Just trade 'em both anyway. Team needs to re-tool some core pieces

Jumping on the pile here, but yes. Split them up by trading them.

The frustration is understandable, but moving them now is not a good idea. You're not going to get a great return for them if you trade them now. Put them on separate lines and try to get them producing at a rate more in line with their career averages. The rest of this season isn't really about making the playoffs anymore, it's mostly about getting the most possible out of each player.

Hopefully the team can take the pressure off themselves, forget about wins and losses and just go out there and focus on playing quality hockey.

They'd have 2 more years to see SM is on his own...

It's amazing how even the split seems to be of people who blame one guy or the other more.

I’d like to see Lindholm with Gaudreau and Tkachuk back with Backlund.

Or back to the playoff lines. Don’t care if Lindholm is a great C right now

Monahan and Tkachuk might actually work together because they are skating at the same speed. One of the main problems right now is Johnny being stuck in the offensive zone without anyone ahead of him to pass the puck to.

Johnny you move asap, not out of frustration or anything against Johnny, but simply from a contract and business perspective

Monahan is less urgent, again because of his deal. I am curious how he would play separated from Johnny since he always plays a bit different when he just defers to him

I actually think that 4th line would be sick.

Options are limited, and since Hudler, outside of catching unexpected fire with Ferland, they’ve been drifting as a duo, looking for a third. Lindholm, for sure, but with Backlund nowhere near the offensive alternative on a second line (then, now, and especially in the future) they need Lindholm to create on his own (which he also having trouble with 5 on 5) second line offense.

Other teams can put a top checking line out on them and if their third guy can’t fight through that to either get the puck or in a spot to finish on net, they’re rendered pretty impotent.
