What is a blockbuster trade anyways? We hear the term thrown out these days in almost every single deal. Heck, Scorp calls all his deals blockbusters even if the deal is filled with players no one has heard of.
Long gone are the days of the true blockbuster trades where many different parts are moving and more than one big name being traded.
Until now.
Sitting very comfortable 2nd overall in the mighty western conference, the handsome Sharks GM MJK is still winning hockey games even while sitting his stud Bergeron for fear of an injury before the playoffs. With many top end players shifting their way through the lineup this season, the Sharks went from a bottom feeder early on this season to one of the top teams in the entire league. There was even a point where Pat from the Avalanche was giddy like a school girl because he owed the Sharks 1st round pick.
Studs like Mackinnon, Bergeron, Stamkos, Tavaras, Letang, Trouba, Landeskog, Malkin have all played for the Sharks this season, some have gone and have even come back again.
This is how it works. You struggle, you trade until you find a fit. Start struggling again and you trade some more.
A month ago there was a deal brewing between the Sharks and Flames that would see Mac Daddy pack his bags. We did the math and landed on the parts that would make a deal work and a trade we could live with but in true Ravi fashion, he just couldn't let go of certain players and so the talks died.
Well, fast forward to late Monday night where another PM was sent from the Flames looking to open talks back up again which saw a rather stern PM sent back to the Flames GM telling him that talks never go anywhere and we don't like wasting our time so for that reason Mackinnon wasn't available. The stern PM included a reminder that we had already taken the time to put together a deal that made sense we believed was fair based on other offers received and we firm on that.
Someone using Ravi's account then wrote back and said we should both stop wasting our time and he was prepared to do the deal as I proposed it some 30+ days ago.
And so a trade was born.
To Calgary: Nathan Mackinnon
Jake McCabe
James Reimer
To San Jose: Matthew Tkachuk
Sean 'Moneyhands' Monahan

That, my friends, is a blockbuster.

Sorry has been a busy few days so was unable to post earlier. This came down to the chance to add an elite C in the game. We think Mack and Elias P will form a top duo (will need to add the other pieces) that can help the squad compete next year.
We did have talks a few weeks ago but when the Flames hired Sutter I really believed they would turn it around. While they may still do that, I was tired of the Flames players letting me down in the CPHL and NHL.
Mackinnon is elite and again I am thrilled to finally add him. This deal really comes down to the Isles first. While Scorp has sent away a large amount of Cheese already next season, the East is just such a dumpster fire I could easily see his team being top 3.
