That's a really nice move by Ottawa to recoup that pick they traded for Stepan.
Coburn might be their second- or third-best defenseman at this point, too
They gave up nothing of value and only got upside in this deal. Love it. Great move for a rebuilding team.

Interesting deal....Sens add some much needed veteran presence, some grit and a 2nd rounder. Sens are going to be a miserable team to play against at times.
TB can LTIR Gaborik immediately and gain much needed cap relief.
Nilsson count as a guy who can be exposed? I assume yes, so they get that as well.

Nilsson is also LTIR ready as he's still struggling with post-concussion issues.

Yeah, really unfortunate as he's a solid goalie but I don't think Ottawa saw him in their plans. Looks like he might be in the same boat as Gaborik.
Ottawa probably goes with Murray/Hogberg/Daccord; TB goes with Vasilevskiy/McElhinney/Gibson.

I had Ottawa at 6 before today, goodnight Oilers. Ottawa making a ton of moves and signings. The other Canadian teams are just too good and established, but I’m loving what Ottawa is doing.

Ottawa with some shrewd moves taking advantage of their cap space.
With cross border quarantine restrictions is there a de facto trade deadline between Canadian and American teams coming up?

Only 17 days to opening night. Not going to be much camp for these guys coming to Ottawa.

Cobourn spent the vast majority of the postseason in the press box.
Paquette is extremely bad.
So, the Lightning gave up two nothings and a 2022 2nd round pick to get 1.2 M under the cap. I don’t know. I think that’s pretty good for them.

Pretty schrewd by Ottawa. Basically traded away players they had to pay not to play for players who will actually play for them this year.

Never underestimate the power of the Oilers's historic no-goodness.

That Ottawa team is gonna be hard to play against. Lots of grinders and bangers. Their offense is going to be anemic but teams will leave with bruises. We play them 9 times. Hope for no injuries.

So here's my guess at lineups for both these teams next year:
Ottawa Senators
Brady Tkachuk - Derek Stepan - Evgeny Dadonov
Tim Stuetzle - Chris Tierney - Connor Brown
Alex Galchenyuk - Colin White - Drake Batherson
Nick Paul - Cedric Paquette - Austin Watson
Logan Brown
Thomas Chabot - Erik Gudbranson
Christian Wolanin - Nikita Zaitsev
Braydon Coburn - Josh Brown
Mike Reilly/Artyom Zub
Matt Murray
Marcus Hogberg
Taxi squad: Micheal Haley, Logan Shaw, Matthew Peca, Artem Anisimov, Christian Jaros, Joey Daccord
Tampa Bay Lightning
Ondrej Palat - Brayden Point - Steven Stamkos
Alex Killorn - Anthony Cirelli - Tyler Johnson
Barclay Goodrow - Yanni Gourde - Blake Coleman
Alex Volkov - Mitchell Stephens - Patrick Maroon
Mathieu Joseph/Taylor Raddysh
Victor Hedman - Jan Rutta
Mikhail Sergachev - Erik Cernak
Ryan McDonagh - Cal Foote
Luke Schenn
Andrei Vasilevskiy
Curtis McElhinney
Injured: Nikita Kucherov
Taxi squad: Alex Barre-Boulet, Ross Colton, Gemel Smith, Luke Witkowski, Andreas Borgman, Chris Gibson

I know E = NG is a meme here, but no way the team with arguably two of the best three players in the North Division finishes last unless one of them gets injured.

Unless they lose their number one dman before the season even starts and then re-sign a geriatric goaltender in a season with 9 or 10 back to back games.

Sens were pretty bad last year, but still only 9 points behind the habs. I think when the point predictions come out, sens will be probably still be around 10 points behind the last playoff spot. With a goal tender that can keep you in games, they might be able to close that gap.
Also it is never a bad idea to get depth players from a team like TB. They are a strong team due to depth and these depth players would be playing on other teams, especially a team like Ottawa.
