Day 3 Phase 3 training camp. Backlund leaves the ice early.
Looks like no change in groups. Which kind of sucks as many other teams are doing scrimmages, but I guess the Flames just have to deal with it.

No Derek Ryan this morning and now Backlund who was on earlier, has left the ice.

#Flames C Mikael Backlund headed to the locker-room a few minutes ago and has yet to return. Not uncommon in training camp especially, but always nerve-wracking for a team to see one of its most valuable skaters exit.

Yeah this is a bit unfortunate as you have to question his commitment to being the best player he can be. I would imagine if he doesn't have a good playoffs that it will be near certain that he's moved in the offseason.

Wes Gilbertson was on the morning show today and doesn't believe that the nine players that are separated from the main group are not in good shape.

I was told last night it was for a very different reason but Im not going to say what that was because it cannot be confirmed and would merely be pure speculation as well, cause it cannot and will not be confirmed by the club even if true.

Much like the Pens sitting 9 guys because they know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy with COVID, I suspect its similar for the Flames, and other teams. You have a link to someone with COVID but are fine, or have had even the sniffles over the past 2 weeks? Second group you go.

I would assume it's the same for most of the others.

I could be wrong but wouldn’t the second group be guys who haven’t cleared quarantine yet since arriving in Calgary?
Also Johnny is so obviously gone back home as soon as he gets the chance. Any one who thinks otherwise is delusional.

Based on how Wes Gilbertson was speaking on the radio this morning, I will speculate.
The second group of players are in that group because they are currently COVID-19 negative but have been in contact with or was in contact with someone who has been in contact with a person that has tested COVID-19 positive in the last month.
My pure speculation.
