I'm going to have to think about this one for a while.
Chouinard wore 16 for the first two years in Calgary and was a force. Stillman had a good run with the number in the dark years, and McGrattan was a huge part of the team's identity and continues to be impactful off the ice.

Have to go with Chouinard. He was the centerman for Lanny when he scored his 66 goals that year.

Went with Stillman for overall contribution, but already feeling like I should have picked Chouinard. Tough call.
Obviously Hull is the best player, but passed on him for the same reason as St. Louis; neither was really a Flame for long enough or was impactful enough.
Lots of good Stillman memories.

yeah its an interesting list-
Hull- no. St Louis clause (edit- hmm I realize now St. Louis has 2 meanings regarding Hull. meant Martin St. Louis clause)
Priakin- interesting historical footnote but no
Berube- no, but worth remembering for a sec
BigErn- hmm. great story and has a huge ongoing impact on the Flames. I think taking the runnerup spot already for number 10- and maybe repeating here- is a nice result for him
Donovan- remarkably the 2nd leading goal scorer on a team that nearly won the Stanley cup
Stillman- runnerup for me. never quite shook the label of what was then a very high pick for the Flames but he had a very good career- including his time with us, and netted us a fine return when he left. always felt you could have more from him though
so that leaves Chouinard- yes confusing with the 2 digit tenure, but was one of the teams bigger stars on arrival and through the early years- the pre 86 Flames aren't getting much traction here, so am giving him the nod

Uhhhh I definitely had Donovan selected. Don’t judge me for the Rieder accident. Not sure what happened.

Have to go with Chouinard here. Lots of good choices like Stillman, Donovan, McGrattan, Berube, and Hull, but Chouinard played at a really high level for both the Atlanta and Calgary Flames for a really long time. It's hard to think of anyone else better suited to take this number.

Tough one, Chouinard was more talented than Stillman but didn't play long here, If you are just going on pure talent then Hull would be the obvious choice. Stillman was decent and played here a long time but he was never a world beater.
McGratton didn't play here long either but when he did he was the best in the league at something. That something was face punching but still. Plus he's just a great guy and good mentor.

This is one where in light of a lot of choices, I went with the 04 nostalgia for Donovan. The season he had came out of nowhere, was integral to the success, and the Nieminen-Nilsson-Donovan line holds a special place in my heart as a fan.

I am going to go with Chouinard here as I will give him some recognition for his time in Atlanta as contributing to the Flames. Most of the guys who came from Atlanta were out of town after the first two years, I think that him and Phill Russel might be the only two who played 100 games in Atlanta and 200 in Calgary. Nilsson and Reinhart were the only guys to be in Calgary for more than 3 years after being in Atlanta and both of them only played the last season in Atlanta getting 80 and 79 games in that season.

There may be others on this list who were much more effective on the ice. But of the ice, none of them have done more for this franchise than Big Ern. He gets my vote.

I could never vote for Stillman after he was part of Tampa in 04.

All I can get
|
Chouinard played during the high-scoring WHA/post-WHA era and became a defensive liability towards the end of his tenure with the worst plus/minus on the team. Which wouldn't have endeared himself with Badger Bob.
Traded at 27 for essentially peanuts (the only info I can find is "future considerations") and out of hockey a little more than a year later.
Injuries maybe? Lost the competitive edge?
My first impulse was to select Guy, but I'm going to have to give this selection some more thought.

Had to go McGrattan. He was instrumental in getting me back into the NHL after taking a long break. The team he was on wasn't great, but watching him do his thing was always fun

The Flames have had some great playmakers over the years. list of leaders in assists/game (not corrected for era mind you)
Chouinard
Nilsson
Gilmour
MacInnis
Suter
Reinhart
Makarov
Gaudreau
Rautakallio
Bullard

Tanguay
Mullen
Housley
Bridgman
other notables
Loob-19
Nieuwy-20
Lindholm-21
Hudler-22
Huselius-23
Tkachuk-25
Iggy- 28
one of the glaring issues with this list is how far down you have to go to find any of Iginla's regular centermen
