I have a HD widescreen tv and when I play widescreen dvds on my ps2 there are still bars on top and bottom, sometimes really big

Does anyone know how to get rid of those?

Use your TV remote and choose a different screen size or stretch.

The new goggles also do nothing.

Most movies are flimed in a higher aspect ratio than an HDTV's screen, so you'll still get black bars if you view the movie at its intended aspect ratio.

You can usually stretch or zoom it in the TV menus, but then you're changing the way the movie looks from what it was originally intended.

About half to 2/3rds of movies are 2.35:1, the rest of the movies are ~1.8:1. You should see no black bars on the 1.8:1 movies, as that is about the same ratio as an hdtv.

If you are seeing skinny bars on some, and thicker bars on others on an HDTV, you have a setting wrong on your dvd player. You should be seeing somewhat thin black bars for some, and none for others. Check the setting on the play station and make sure you have the aspect ratio set up for 16:9 TVs.
