The secret is out. The Flames are a really good team and they have a lot of skilled guys. They are going to get the other team's best effort mainly to shut them down.

Watch the effort that teams put up against Tampa and that will big an indication of the Flames up-coming quality of opposition.

The Flames really need a second playmaker on the team, 2nd line center preferably.

Mikael Backlund is a checker and should be on the 3rd line. Same with Michael Frolik.

Also need a capable backup goaltender to David Rittich.

First in the division, 2nd in the western conference is admirable but probably not sustainable without addressing these deficiencies. Same goes for the playoffs. One scoring line can be shut down by the opposition. James Neal needs a playmaker on his line. Tkachuk - ? - Neal

I do wonder if Schenn could be had for futures and a similar cap-hit?

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Bennett
Schenn - Ryan - Neal
Czarnik - Jankowski - Hathaway

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson
Prout

Insert Frolik or Stone into the line-up, whoever wasn’t dealt in the Schenn trade.

A 1st and 2nd would have to be going the other way as well. I’m definitely all for this team spending some additions futures. I believe we’re very close.

A player who has averaged 0.5 ppg over his entire career, and 0.55 ppg so far this season, is not merely a checker.
