Backlund wore an A while Monahan was out for the remainder of the season. Regardless I think you can only have 2 alternate captains with a captain on the team.

I doubt any form of leadership has been decided during the summer right now. Peters probably will get that sorted out in September when training camp starts.

We could see a bunch of changes to it going into the fall.

You can rotate through as many Captains and Alternates as you want in a season (the Wild used to have a different Captain each month).

In any one game, you can only dress three players wearing a letter, either one Captain and two Alternates or three Alternates.

There was no rotation of the letters last season.

Gio played all 82 games, so he never needed to be replaced. Monahan and Brouwer were the Alternates for all the other games, except the few they missed due to injury or illness. Backlund wore the A in any game one of them missed.

Monahan and Brouwer never missed the same game, so no one else wore a letter last season.

Backlund deserves it.

Guy has been with the Flames all of his career. Has went through a ton of stuff on the ice and battled through it. He busts his ass every game for us.

If it was up to me he would have had the A before Monny.
