Icon23 Canes sign de Haan (4 yrs, $4.55 mil AAV)

Luke DeCock
@LukeDeCock
Hurricanes have agreed to terms with free-agent defenseman Calvin de Haan, per source. Four years, $18.2 million. Left-shot D completes top two pairings.

Carolina's defence looks very good now

Breaking: Carolina signs every defenseman, including those already signed by other NHL teams.

Seems pretty steep for a 20pt Dman.

Not bad for the Canes; Toronto needed a D like DeHaan in a bad way

Hurricanes with a Flamesesque D circa
2009 or 2017. Take your pick.

Slavin-Hamilton
DeHaan-Pesce
Fleury-Faulk
Bean-Fox

Not bad. They're probably looking to swap Faulk for a forward, maybe Puljujarvi?

That is the best blue line in the NHL.

Maybe on paper.

We know what that's worth, right?

Yeah, fair enough, but all you can do is set yourself up as well as possible, and especially when your forward corps is thin. This is like anti-Toronto. Now if they can just get an occasional save...

de Haan must have been waiting to see what happened with Tavares before he made his decision. Smart decision.

So Isles lose Tavares and De Haan for nothing, not even a playoff appearance to show for it. Am I missing anyone else?

Who was it in other threads that kept suggesting we trade Stone and sign this guy instead to save cap room?

I view it as the blueline that will be talked about being under-rated so much that they become over-rated.

that's a pretty funny way of looking at it. If Hamonic was a UFA they wouldn't have given anything up, that's how it works when a player is under contract already. You see, when a team signs a player.....you know what, no.

Are you really a Flames fan?

And a 100% chance of getting the player instead of say a 20% chance.
