The Athletic: Stars are frontrunners to land E. Karlsson. Ryan not part of the deal.
Huge if true. But it is brooks so FWIW
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Senators have given interested teams permission to talk contract extension with Karlsson. Sounds as if he is looking for Doughty deal (8x11)
News UpdateChris Stevenson @CJ_Stevenson
NHL source tells The Athletic he thinks Dallas has emerged as front runner for Karlsson and Bobby Ryan will not be part of the deal. No other details.

8 x 11 seems reasonable.
You would think the Knights are interested since they were at the TD. m sure many will be inquiring.

So clearly he told the Sens "thanks but no thanks" when they offered their extension.
Sucks because you know they will more than likely trade him to the West.
Probably be either San Jose or Vegas too, in our division.

The Doughty deal would be incredible for Karlsson. I'd have to think he'd get a little more though.

Man that is crazy; I really think he is going to slide a bit this is a huge risk of a contract IMO. My money is on Vegas or Tampa, maybe even Boston who's traded for big D from Ottawa before (Chara)

If we were to even consider signing Karlsson the return for him once the EXT was agreed on would be insane. The only player on the depth chart that would make sense to trade is Giordano and it would cut into the culture of both the Gio cap that's been established and the feel of the locker room. That's a major gamble. To go along with Gio your looking at having to add probably 19 1st, Andersson and one of Janko/Bennett... No thanks.

You think it's risky to sign the best defenceman in the league to a big contract when he's only 28?

Just coming out of a strange locker room dynamic that went from conference finals to basement of the league in just over a year. He has had injury problems as well and it's not like we are just signing him to an 8 year 11 million per deal like Doughty ~ we are having to trade real assets for him and THEN give him that contract. That is risky and I want no part of it.

sadly, SJS worked the numbers for JT, so you would think that they should have cash for Karlsson, though, the Hertl and Thornton contracts might have changed things a little...
not sure what kind of prospects they have but you'd think some active players would flip back to Ott for salary reasons

Sign Karlsson to 7 years 10.7M

My mistake ~ Karlsson is a righty not sure why I thought Otherwise...
Is Brodie + Stone + Dube + 19 1st + Frolik for Karlsson fair?
Gaudreau ~ Monahan ~ Lindholm
Tkachuk ~ Backlund ~ Neal
Bennett ~ Ryan ~ Czarnik
Mangiapane ~ Jankowski ~ Foo
Hathaway, Brouwer
Giordano ~ Karlsson
Hanifin ~ Hamonic
Kulak ~ Andersson
Prout
Clearing roughly 11 million in Frolik/Stone/Brodie so it's a wash for Karlsson but then you have to consider we still have only 12.8 to sign Janko, Lindholm, Hanifin among others so now we are looking at trying to rid ourselves of Brouwer and we also have no longterm Goalie past this year and an RFA Tkachuk and Bennett.
It's a nice thought but Karlsson would cap jail us and it's not worth it... we have a good mix right now.

It's amazing to think that an NHL team actually exists that is more dysfunctional than the Oilers.
