Question Dishwasher Repair Help

Hey guys,

So we have a relatively new Kenmore Elite Dishwasher, think it's been around for 3 years, but the last 6 months it's been untouched since one of the racks broke and we literally let it sit until we ordered and installed the new part today.

Anyway, suddenly now we've run it twice and this terrible burning smell and upon opening eye burning experience has occurred.

After the first time we took a look at the heating element and nothing was on it, we cleaned the filter as well.

Upon initial inspection I couldn't see anything immediately that was burnt and in the second cycle we put in a bowl of vinegar for the cycle to see if that helped whatsoever.

The smell wasn't as bad the second time around, but still smells like something is burning.

First of all, any tips on what to look into? And secondly any relatively inexpensive/well recommended repair services if we can't sort this out?

Thanks in advance.

They always smell when you first use them as the elements burning off whatever crap has accumulated on it, there is likely a manufacturers help line you can call, I'd start there.

So turns out, I'm blind.

There were TWO pieced of plastic (I believe in hindsight now from the original rack that broke) and they were UNDER the heating element and not OVER it like I presumed.

Smell and everything is now gone...thanks for your feedback afc!
