Question No-fee chequing accounts

After my student banking plan expired recently, I've started paying monthly fees to my bank for a very basic chequing account. As a result, I'm curious about no-fee chequing account options like those offered by PC Financial and Tangerine.

Does anyone have any recommendations/advice about no-fee chequing accounts? I would hope for one with plenty of ATMs to access around town. I'm also curious how customer service is with such options.

I have one with First Calgary. Plenty of ATMs around compared to Tangerine and PC. No noticeable difference in customer service.

I've been with PC Financial for so long I can't remember how long it's been. It's great. I can use any of the CIBC machines to withdraw/deposit as well as the ones at Superstore. The internet banking works properly. I pay no fees.

I'll piggyback on this thread with a question as well.

My kids are probably going to need a bank account opened at some point this year. Are there any kids bank accounts that stand out or are they all essentially the same. I got excited earlier this year when ATB was running their $300 or $350 promotion for opening a new account but it didn't apply to accounts for kids.

I have a First Calgary No fees account too
If you use any other credit union machine you get no service charge as well

+1 for First Calgary. I've never had any complaints with them.

We opened a tangerine last year. No complaints so far. Like their online and can deposit and withdraw at scotiabank machines.

If you have 3 accounts with RBC it is free, though I'm not sure how many transactions that gives you. I was on a limited one(10/month, I think) when I added a 3rd account. So you can do a chequing, savings and RRSP or TFSA to qualify, as long as the investment account has at least $500 in it.

Support a Credit Union like First Calgary over a bigger bank, they return more of their profits back to the community.
