No blackouts if you get the game locally (i.e. are subscribed to the channel). Its actually better for the local fan if you are stuck at work, you can watch it on your phone/tablet/computer if you're subscribed to the channel its on.

Its more expensive this year if you aren't with Rogers wireless or internet - $199.99.

Still not great for me as I don't have cable. So regional blackouts apply. I use Rogers a Wireless, so if I want Gamecentre for Jan 1, will it be prorated?

So... I will be able to stream 10 minutes of hockey a month before I hit my mobile data limit AND I can watch local games online if I'm already paying for Sportsnet on cable? What an exciting time to be alive!

You're missing the point. Pretty much Rogers is giving you an access code for NHL Gamecentre which is NHL Centre Ice. You can watch ALL NHL games on your phone, tablet, PC, Xbox, Playstation, Roku. I wouldn't recommend using your mobile data for this. Use WIFI only. ALL NHL games are not broadcast on TV.

This isn't meant for local games anyway. If you want local games then use something as simple as Unblockus to access them. Simple enough really.

It's saving around a $100 as that's how much Gamecentre/NHL Centre Ice would cost October - December.

And I'm not being paid for this.....lol. I got te message from Rogers so I thought I would post it here for further public awareness.

Gamecentre Live was $19/month last year, so $57 savings, which it sounds like they're making up by making it $50 more expensive.

My worry here is that people like myself and some other above who use GCL instead of cable are going to get screwed somehow.

Wow what a piss-poor re-launch of an existing product (that the NHL used to offer and which is now controlled by Rogers).
All GCL links are now directed to Rogers, where there is minimal info, and nothing at all for loyal GCL subscribers who aren't in the Rogers cable/data universe and who won't qualify for the free preview.
Since us non-Rogers people are going to be asked to pay full freight for GCL, maybe, just maaaaybe, some details are in order. Like, how much will we pay this season? When can we re-register? What changes can we expect?
Instead, nothing.

I got this message too and it looked weirdly spammy to me, especially the part where you have to text back to "opt out". I assume those links have already been clicked and verified?

They certainly are a little fishy with the Serbian domain links. But they do seem to re-direct to a legitimate Rogers site.

So, can I watch Flames games on this if I live in Alberta?

Come on guys, have you never heard of link shorteners?

Look at the links. roge.rs, what does that spell? rogers.

You are probably just going to have to pay the full $200. They will blackout local games if you don't have the channel they are being shown on.

Some interesting quotes:

Quote:
As part of the announcement, Rogers also promised it would lift more "blackouts" of in-region games, which previously meant, for example, that fans in Vancouver couldn't watch Canucks games on the streaming service.

The catch is that those fans must still be television customers and can't rely solely on an online subscription.

Quote:
The service will include live streams of national games including Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays.
