Default CP Food Drive for Food Bank

I have been thinking about the collective here and how the community has come together during times of need.

Given the time of year and the apparent increased need, I'd like to initiate a food donation drive for the Food Bank.

I honestly think this community could make a very big impact and help out a lot of struggling families.

I'm not exactly sure how this will work just yet.

The ask - one grocery bag of food for the Food Bank before Dec. 4.

visit here for food that is in need:

Food Bank most needed items

I was originally going to offer to pick them up but I am not sure I can afford the fuel to burn around town and grab them.

I would like to offer a place for you to drop that bag of - (initially this will be my house) - perhaps this will change if this idea takes flight.

I will then drop everything donated to the Food Bank on December 4.

Let's start a discussion to see if this is worth pursuing.

Would you be willing to contribute?

I may need some help if this idea has legs but let's let that become a problem.

Let me know your thoughts on how we can do this.

I like the concept. Would it be easier to just drop the food off at our local grocery store or at one of the other collection points?

Of course it would be easier. If you are willing to do it. I think my initial thought was "let's see how much collectively we could put together".

Maybe that is the wrong approach?

I'm open for ideas/discussion.

I like the idea, but why not do some sort of cash donation? The food bank can buy $5 worth of groceries (or something like that) with every dollar they receive from donations

The point about cash donations is correct. When $1 is donated, the CIFB can leverage that into $5 worth of food. The other thing to consider is that this time of year is a huge source of donations, food and monetary. After the Christmas season there is a drop off in donations as people are recovering from bills, but no decrease in demand and a food drive in January/February would most likely have more of an impact. That was how it was explained to me when volunteering there anyway, it might have changed though.

Either way, I'll volunteer the use of my truck to move stuff if it's needed. Can also try to get some actual CIFB boxes to make transporting and storage easier.

This ^

I donate money to the food bank every year instead of goods. Then they can leverage that into even more food/supplies (and they can buy the stuff that doesn't get donated often enough).

I still think it's a good idea to raise awareness, but I personally find it easier to donate online (and it saves surferguy a lot of gas :P)

Well it looks like this will be the option I go with then. I will donate the money I would have spent on fuel.

Anybody care to join me?
