Since the other thread got derailed

Czech Daniel Pribyl requires knee surgery after his playoff season ended. #Flames remain interested in signing. Will not play at Worlds.

#Flames GM Brad Treliving likens Pribyl to what he calls "a young Robert Lang" .. Adds if signed may require time at AHL Stockton

Robert Lang was a great hockey player. If Pribyl even becomes the fifth of the player that Robert Lang was, then this is going to be a fantastic signing. Hope his knee injury won't be a long-term problem though.

Yeah another Robert Lang probably means something like a 20 goal, 30-40 assist guy in this NHL if he puts it all together.

That would be quite dandy.

sounds like it is done already. Don't really don't hear GM's liken a player not signed to another player, let alone a development plan.

And? Are you saying that's not great?

If we got 700 points in 900 games from a UFA signing, I'd have to call that a major victory.

Robert Lang ... I had totally forgotten about him. I'd take that.

Hopefully on topic but I wonder what this signing could mean for Joe Colborne? If Pribyl does make the line up its entirely possible he slots in as 3L RW moving Frolik back to LW and bumping Colborne, likely off the roster.

Remind me who our #1 and #2 RWs are again?

Colborne isn't going to be bumped off the roster by Pribyl. Not this year, at the very least.

After the year Colborne had, it would be hard to bump him off the roster for a guy who hasn't played a game in the NHL. Just my thoughts, plus need a 1st and 2nd line RW.

Thats sort of my suggestion / guess. That it won't be either Pribyl or Colborne. Those will likely be filled either by draft or FA. If the Flames aren't all that sold on paying Colborne more than 2.5 per year, that they aren't as convinced the Colborne we saw at the end of the year is the Colborne we'll see going forward then maybe they do see Pribyl as a cheaper alternative.

When Robert Lang got traded from the Caps to the Wings in '04, he was leading the Art Ross race. Obviously he didn't win, but if we get player who is even a fraction of what Lang was, I'd call that a win.

He didn't make any comment on the quality of the player, he provided a link.

Robert Lang was a great player in his day, would love it if Pribyl turned into him.

When Treliving likens Pribyl to a young Robert Lang, he is doing a style comparison IMO. Treliving is not saying he will turn into Lang, have a similar career to Lang, or even match some of the numbers Lang put up on a yearly basis.

All he is saying is that when he watches Pribyl, he is reminded of how a young Robert Lang used to play.

As for Colborne, it really isn't something to worry about until Pribyl proves himself to be a full time NHLer.

Laine is a right shot though so could easily play RW. He is like Ovie just enjoys playing his off wing. I see Laine listed as RW on most websites as well
