IKEA voluntary recall of dressers (tipping hazard)
Customers are entitled to a full refund for chests and dressers manufactured between January 2002 and June 2016. Chests of drawers manufactured prior to 2002 will be eligible for a partial store credit. For any customer that still wants to keep their IKEA chests of drawers, but who did not keep their tip-over restraint, a free wall anchoring kit can be picked up at any IKEA location or one can be delivered to their home by contacting the Customer Support Centre at 1-800-661-9807 or by visiting ikea.ca/saferhomestogether.

Perfect time for anybody to return all the Ikea stuff in their house that they've collected over the past 14 years.

Those things were always a nightmare.
"Here, take this piece of scrap tin and drill this stupid thing into the wall. That oughta do it."

Exactly what I will be doing. Our daughter is getting to the age where she will start climbing these and we would rather return them and buy something stronger and less top-heavy.

We got one of these dressers last year. I don't recall getting any/seeing any of the anchoring hardware included. Not too worried about it though. We don't have little kids in the house anymore and the dresser is actually situated in the closet, where it's difficult to move it. So I think we'll just carry on.

so what makes this particular dresser more prone to tipping than other dressers?

The drawer weight is an issue with these. Pull all 4 drawers out and boom. Fall down.

Tripping hazard?
I better not miss my eye doctor's appointment tomorrow.
We have three of these and we didn't use the wall anchor. I recall that portion being in the instructions to anchor it to the wall, and I also recall thinking, this little thing is going to keep the dresser from tipping? More like, it will just rip out of the wall. We haven't used the anchor. My son did tip the dresser over once too, but now he knows not to open ALL of the drawers all the way. He didn't get hurt, just scared.

If you secure cabinets and dressers using something like a couple of 75 lb drywall anchors, it shouldn't rip out at all.
Like these:

If you're super paranoid, you could get some zinc-plated 100+ lb ones.

Sounds like it to me. We may have as many as four of these bad boys that qualify for the recall. I guess it doesn't matter that the tops are scratched now.

Does anyone know if IKEA Canada is offering pickup service of the dressers like they are in the US? I've been looking on the Canada page and I can't find reference to it. The US Ikea stores provided a (866) 856-4532 to call where they will pick it up and provide the refund then.
I'll be returning mine. Everytime I've tried to move mine, the drawers roll open and it starts tipping. Poor design, but it was all I could afford at the time.

Does anyone know if they still give you a full refund/credit if it's damaged?
We have 2. One in our bedroom has a piece of weed between the drawers broken.
The one in our sons room has the front of the drawer ripped completely off.
Perfect timing for a recall, assuming we'll still get money/credit back even if damaged.
