Default Best outboard engine for inflatable (2.5-4hp)

looking for an engine for infatable rated for 4hp. Went into basspro and saw a Mercury 2.5hp priced at $818. Mostly looking to use to for the kids so they can learn the waters with small power. We'd also like to use it for transporting older family members to the other boat hooked well off shore and late night cruises without waking up everyone around us and simple to beach.

What's the best way to go? Honda, evenrude, etc? Not against used. Know the new engines have warranty. Dad is the boat guy but we'd like to surprise him with it for a trip later in the month.

-Sound dampening would be the biggest plus

I'd get a trolling motor.

I've been REALLY impressed with Honda engines. We used to go fishing way up north where you'd be flown in on a float plane. Very remote. Every lake we went to had boats equipped with Honda engines. They started every time, even the ones that had likely gone quite some time without being run.

We also have an Evenrude, thing has to be at least 40 yrs old. I'll admit that it probably doesn't have a lot of run time on it but when we remember to store it properly, it works flawlessly despite being in storage for years.

If you go used, do make sure to have it looked over. Many people don't store their engines properly over the winter which can really gum up carbs and filters.

Oh, and I'd recommend a 4stroke. Run much more smoothly and less smokey.

Good luck!
