Default Police Escort Through Downtown?

We were in a meeting and just saw the cops close down 4 Ave SW for a motorcade to go through. There were a dozen motorbike cops, a few cop cars, and what looked like a black sedan and black SUV they were escorting.

What's this for? Is there a VIP here? One guy suggested it was Justin Bieber but why would our tax dollars pay for a police escort for him?

To make sure he leaves? Do you really want him hanging around here?

Our tax dollars wouldn't pay for an escort for Bieber. His own handlers would. Same as the Flames pay extra costs for policing hockey games.

I would guess it was probably for Notley, given she and her band of fools were in Calgary for their convention the past few days.

They do training runs every year I believe (I know the daughter of some guy pretty high up and she mentioned it). Could be absolutely nothing.

It also happened all the time anyway when Harper was PM. Motorcades down Glenmore were not uncommon.

I saw it as well. About 20 motorcycles followed by four black police suv's. Stopped all traffic along 4th ave. Don't know who could be so important that they can't wait at a red light.

When the Stones played the dome, a huge police escort whisked them away and to the airport 10 minutes after the show ended.

We are conducting motorcade training in #Calgary today. Pretty neat sight if you experience the convoy fly past! #yyctraffic #yyc

yeah, it is epic to be stopped at an intersection where you have the green light and you are forced to wait even longer.

this crew just raced up macleaod past Chinook - and then they must have done a U-turn somewhere near canyon meadows as they just ripped it up heading north again

Saaw one in DC, that was entertaining. Donald Rumsfeld was in the back seat of the limo that raced past me.
