Dang. I was hoping Bishop's profile wasn't growing so we could snag him at a lower cost.

Bishop scares me, I don't like the way he plays goal and he's going to command a huge salary in a year.
He's probably my last choice out of the rumoured options for the Flames.

Wouldn't mind Holtby winning it. Good ol' prairie boy from Alberta/Saskatchewan.

To be honest, I think he's the runaway winner.

I struggle with Quick on this list. Holtby by a fairly significant margin.

Same here and talk of shrinking equipment would affect him the most IMO.

Rob Vollman was trying to prove on the radio today that Bishop is the choice for the Vezina.
I'm afraid I must disagree with you on that front, Mr. Vollman -- this is Holtby's trophy. Love your writing.

I don't know about that. Bishop had a better GAA and SV% on a worse team. But Holtby has the whole tying the wins record thing going for him. Could go to either one.

yeah why would the Flames want a vezina finalist...especially when he might play awesome and demand a huge contract!

Yeah, I admit it's a little unfounded. I just don't like Bishop as a goalie and wouldn't want the Flames to trade assets for him and then sign him to a big contract.
He reminds me of Mike Smith in 2011-2012.
11-12 30 year old Mike Smith 2.21 GAA 0.930 SV%
15-16 29 year old Ben Bishop 2.06 GAA 0.926 SV%
Heck, they're even both on their 3rd NHL teams currently. Bishop is the superior goalie, but as I mentioned he's probably the last of the apparent options I'd want the Flames to trade for and sign.

One problem with that AC, Mike Smith played on the stifling Dave Tippett Coyotes, and even though they were low on talent, that team played a style of shutdown defense that hasn't been seen since the dead puck era New Jersey Devils.
Bishop plays on Tampa Bay, and while they aren't a terrible defensive team, they play a pretty loose style of defense that relies on their goaltender a lot more than the Coyotes relied on Smith.
I get it, he's big, therefore he relies too much on pads and position. That's an assumption that's fair to make with most big goalies, but IMO Bishop does more than that, and I consider him a cut above those other blocking style goalies. He's pretty mobile, and he reads the play very, very well. Those long legs cover the bottom of the net exceptionally well, and he's not a guy that plays the whole game on his knees. I'm not saying he's the next Martin Brodeur, but he's a guy that is not likely going to fall apart the way Hiller did, even if they were to shrink the equipment size a little.

I watched Holtby's dad play Jr, saw him play Jr, and now he's up for the Vezina. Cool but man it makes me feel old!
Hope he gets it.
