Article - Babcock for Jack Adams?
(sorry, not sure how to properly embed a link)
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...ticle27989580/
Globe article making a possible case for Babcock for Jack Adams. At first I laughed, but I guess if he could take them to the playoffs he would certainly receive strong consideration.
Too often in recent years the Jack Adams has gone to a one-off: a coach whose underdog team had a fluky, percentage-driven run to success that wasn’t going to be sustainable the next season. The last three winners – Paul MacLean, Patrick Roy and Bob Hartley – all fit that description.
Thought this comment was interesting. A season is 82 games and I think this diminishes those coaches accomplishments over a long season . What they do next year shouldnt mean they had a "flukey" season, at least in my opinion.Thoughts?

Um. For why? Being 13th in the conference and 27th in the NHL currently?
Coincidentally its exactly where they were at the end of last season.
Anyone can take a bad team and suck like hell, why not just throw the Jack Adam's in the dumpster out back?

Its coach of the year. Not coach of the past few years.
what a coach does the following year is not relevant to me. Makes that quote in the article useless to me.
if Babcock gets them to the playoffs he should be considered.

This forum really needs a pukey smilie. Total Toronto media article.
The Leafs are still 7th in their division, and won't make the playoffs. Sure they've had a good run recently, but even if the do keep it up, they probably won't make the playoffs. And there's still half a season left. The writer is assuming a lot of data over a short run here.
Also kinda perturbed he's calling Harley's win flukey, when we haven't seen how this season has ended yet. But again, typical, look at us Toronto media.
The one thing I agree with is that Babcock probably should have won it in the past. And yes, coaches who keep teams going at a high level of play, often take a back seat to coaches that have a big turnaround year, which isn't always fair.

This is basically now the "we all thought your team was going to suck but it did much better than expected so I guess it must be thanks to your coaching" award.
If no candidates exist for that, it's the "You obviously had a really good team, and you succeeded in meeting those expectations by winning your conference or the president's trophy" award.
Sort of how the Norris is now "you scored lots of points as a defenseman and are at least arguably okay at defense."

If Babcock gets that team to the playoffs, he should win unanimously.
But he's not getting that team to the playoffs.

If Babcock could do this season what Hartley did last season he should win the Jack Adams. Given the Leafs current standing I feel this article is highly premature as you can argue Dave Tippett has done just as much or better with a similar roster and unlike the Leafs they have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs. That said I would be leaning to Lindy Ruff or Barry Trotz as they have their teams playing much better than the rest of the league.

Bob 'was' a fluke when the Flames miss the playoffs this year.
That hasn't happened yet, so not sure why the Globe needed to take a shot at him.

If not for Bernier, I think Babcock would be the frontrunner as the Leafs would likely be in or near a WC spot.
We'll see what can happen the rest of the year.

Oilers were 28th this time last year, and are 28th currently. Maybe Todd should get it!

Disagree. I don't think it mattered cause any goalie behind that team was going to have a tough time.
But seriously.. Wtf has Babcock done to deserve Jack Adams consideration at halfway through the season?
Hartley did an incredible job last year, Babcock needs to do what Hartley did, get his team to the playoffs and get his guys motivated to reach that goal. I don't think k the latter is happening, therefore neither will the Jack Adams.
Why are we even talking about this? Eff you Toronto, you suck. Go away. Come back when you're actually relevant. You know, when Stammer signs?!?

Must be written by the same guy who threw a vote to Carlyle last year.
