Icon48 SAP screwing up nhl.com statistics

SAP was supposed to be powering nhl.com's foray into enhanced stats.

The evidence that they don't know what they are doing is mounting and the NHL is being conned.

19a. What do NHL employees think about the product? Here’s Andrew Thomas, league employee: “ ..What burns me the most isn’t at all "competition”: it’s extremely lazy work masquerading as professional innovation.”
19b. A second league employee: “Up there with the first Lindros trade and the 1988 game with linesmen in yellow practice jerseys, only worse because the league would have us believe it is now competent.”
19c. A third league employee: “Outrageously bad.”
Read the link for more damning evidence.

Quote:
In summary: there is no reason to go to NHL.com for anything related to hockey statistics. Their numbers are inaccurate. If not inaccurate, they are misleading. If not inaccurate or misleading, they aren’t capturing what they believe they are capturing. If none of the above, the site is a total hassle to maneuver through and the filtering/visualization looks like a child slapped the cursor on MS Paint a hundred times.

I work with SAP every day and it is a large, cumbersome son-of-a-gun.

Hockey might only be a silly game but the NHL is a billion dollar revenue customer for SAP with a continent wide network of large 100 million dollar franchises. They might want to get their crap together.

I found the new NHL.com stats page to be cumbersome.

I don't even bother with the enhanced stats page there.

Sounds like the NHL needs to spend some big bucks on a Benefits Realization team to dig into what the implementation team did wrong.

In my view there's really no reason to use anything besides War On Ice at this point, except comfort and familiarity with another option. For example, my first stop is always stats.hockeyanalysis.com, simply because it's what I've used for years.

If the NHL had any sense at all they'd simply hire the entire WOI crew and ask them to please manage the stats section of the website. It would probably cost less and it would certainly be outstanding in quality and usefulness.

SAP can't even do sports stats. LOL

This is the stuff government and big business uses to manage taxation, health stuff, billing, etc.

SAP (and Oracle) are junk. Dynamics can do everything SAP and Oracle apps can do but at a fraction of the price, on commodity hardware and with skill sets more people have.

Once you get on that SAP treadmill, you will be feeding it forever. People would rather throw more money at the problem than admit a mistake.

Any word if this carries over to the standings? The Flames could use a few extra points.

As did I for 10 years, actually part of the development team.
SAP has always been long on promises yet short on delivering.

Should I warn my team leads who are looking to move to SAP HANA that it may not be all that it is cracked up to be?

Are the standings correct?

Maybe the Flames aren't that bad...

One has to think that Hasso Plattner (co-founder of SAP AG software and current owner of the San Jose Sharks) may have had significant influence in getting the NHL to sign on the dotted line.

The implementation for mobile devices is unbelievably bad judging from the last time I tried it. They didn't even have 'pick a team' as a filter when looking at individual stats.. lol!

I've never been a fan of the NHL web site. It's so clunky and other sites to box scores so much better.
