Default Glencross Announces Retirement

Surely this deserves it's own thread...

http://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/stat...28493648416768

Curtis Glencross says he's retiring. "We have weighed our options and with the young family I'm enjoying a lot of firsts with them."

That's too bad....he's still serviceable in a reduced role in this league.

Sucks to see him go out this way,

He was a fantastic flame and his service was appreciated. Glad he gets to enjoy some quality time with his family now.

Well earned rest Curtis.

I didn't expect him to get paid big bucks but man I never expected this.. imagine if the Flames had extended him last summer instead of trading.

Good luck GlenX! Best of luck.

I'd gladly switch bank accounts with you and live off the interest into my golden year starting from my early 30s!

Whoa. I did not see that coming.

Enjoy ranching and rodeo Glencross. You earned it.

Wow. I'm honestly shocked his stock fell this far this fast.

Good luck Curtis. Enjoy retirement and the ranch!

I'm really surprised he didn't find a job in the NHL but if he is happy, financially comfortable, and wants to retire to spend time with his family then all the power to him!

Tough to be a victim of economics rather than his own play (although he didn't do himself any favors last year in that regard).

He's a wealthy man, but much less so than he likely could have been. I'm sure he'll have a great time with his young family and I wish him luck in his future endeavors! Thank you for the efforts, Curtis.

Kind of sad news that it ended so fast for him. There was a time where he and the Flames were talking contract last year but couldn't make the numbers work. That has to sting for him and his agent. He went from fetching 2nd and 3rd round picks at the deadline to out of the league. Talk about your stock falling steeply in a short amount of time.

crazy how fast those things can go in the NHL.

I wish him all the best in retirement. Really liked him as a Flame.

I think hes a bit of a victim of both.

That being said, Glencross really is the face of an upcoming schism within the NHL.

With the inherent benefit of moving to faster, younger, hungrier and cheaper the guys in the middle will be squeezed out of the picture. If anything Glencross is one of lucky ones that can still go out on his own terms.

Other players may have to become AHL journeymen or ply their trade in Europe or Russia. Which isnt terrible. I know of a guy that got drafted but just couldnt ever make it anywhere near even getting a sniff of an NHL gig and hes been playing in Berlin for almost a long time now.

That is too bad to hear. I thought he would for sure be able to find a job in the NHL.

He never seemed like a guy that would go play simply for a paycheck and a guy that has a lot of interests outside of hockey so I guess it is not too surprising to him retire rather than go to Europe/Russia/AHL.

I enjoyed watching him as a Flame and was disappointed that his time here kind of ended on a bad note with many fans.

I am sure he must have had some decent European options, but in the end, you have to consider valuable your time is after you have a nest egg.

I'm sure he's got lots of connections in the oil patch if he ever wanted to go that route too.

Enjoy the ranch, big guy!
