Kings sign Ehrhoff to 1 yr deal ($1.5mil)
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
If this is already out there, I apologize. Haven't been on Twitter. In any case, LAK and Christian Ehrhoff have agreed to terms on 1-yr deal

I guess they won't be bringing Voynov back.

Lombardi confirmed Christian Ehrhoff signing at 1 year, $1.5 million. Pragmatic, solid deal.

That is the kind of deal you sign a bottom pairing dman to. His star has fallen but a solid signing IMO.

Even if Voynov is back, this is still a move that makes them better. I didn't have them as a playoff team before, but now I think they're there. Without Voynov as a wildcard, and with Voynov perhaps a 100 point team.

For a team without a ton of money to spend this is definitely a solid signing.

Hope this is a precursor to terminating Voynov's contract. I like the Kings (as much as one can like a division rival) but don't think I could support them if they bring back a guy who did the things he did. And the hypocrisy of terminating Richards' contract and then not doing the same for Voynov's when it would actually be justifiable would just be too much.
Oh, also pretty fair value for Ehrhoff at this point in his career. Could be decent this year.

Great pickup for LA considering their cap situation. Ehrhoff admittedly was a pretty good dman for the Canucks in his day but he'll still make a decent number 5 or 6.

very interesting that since Erhoff left Edler and Canucks he has never really had a regular D-man pairing
His most consistent partner on defense since Vancouver:
year 1 in Buff Leopold 24.4 %
year 2 in Buff Myers 33.1%
year 3 in Buff Mark Pynsk 34.4
last year in Pitts: Paul Martin 22 % of the time
Compare Gio had Brodie 91.4 %
Wideman had Russell 83.7
Muzzin had Doughty 69.2 % of the time
If the Kings put him with Doughty and go with Muzzin and Martinez as the second pairing they might get a lot of value for their 1.5M.

Pretty good low risk signing but I hope he bombs. I lost a lot of respect for that organization this summer.

I believe in the Jays.

I really hope this means that Voynov is out. Not only because he's a POS but because I don't want the Kings getting any better. Seriously, #### the Kings.

Dude is, at worst, a 4D, barring his last injury having significant lasting effects. This is a really good signing. Hell, we thought 1 year 4m was a good deal last summer, and if he hadn't been hurt it would have been.

Great signing, too bad it's to a western rival.
I wonder if Treliving kicked the tires on that one.

The last thing the Flames needed were more bottom pairing defensemen.

It is a year too early.... Next year The Flames will be looking at spending more for Russell so a cheaper short term Erhoff would work. But if Erhoff has a rebound season (like Raymond had in Toronto when he had his cheap 1 year deal) he will likely be too expensive for the Flames.... like Raymond turned out to be.
This year for the Kings Erhoff is basically a Regehr fill in as far as Ice time goes..... not a lot of depth on D for the Kings before signing Erhoff.
Their #5 is Greene After (signing Erhoff) who I would put roughly in the Engelland category.
What a depth difference one quality D-man makes .... The Kings lose Voynov and are scrambling to have 4 NHL d-men plus Greene. The Flames get Hamilton and all the sudden they have a guy on the 5/6 pair that can play top minutes against top lines.

Some combination of Wideman/Russell/Engelland are going to get traded and/or injured at some point. You wouldn't want Erhoff on a year-to-year basis keeping the seat warm for upcoming prospects? I'd take Erhoff is a heartbeat if he'd sign in CGY for 1.5MM.

I doubt any of the names you mentioned would be traded this season, even Russell who is a pending UFA. The Flames have plenty of depth in case of injury:
Giordano Hamilton
Brodie Wideman
Russell Engelland
Smid Nakladal
Morrison Wotherspoon
If it wasn't for the depth the Flames already have I would love to have Ehrhoff on a one year deal, but it makes no sense at this time.
