Default Home inspectors not able to estimate on repair costs?

We are in the process of buying a new house. I've been through the process a number of times before, but this is the first time in about 8 years.

We just had a home inspected, and the inspector told me that he was no longer able to provide rough estimates as to the cost of repair of items. This made no sense to me given that the Alberta Real Estate Association Residential Purchase Contract has cookie cutter items for failing an inspection based on a price to fix.

Has anyone heard of the hime inspector's not being able to estimate on repairs any more?

I would be expect they would never accurately be able to predict the cost of repairs.
A couple calls to contractors might give you at least a ballpark.

No, they don't do that anymore.
