I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I guess I was one of the few who had the album Nico and the Velvet Undrground when it came out. I saw them at a dance hall a few years later. Great writer and musician who talked about subjects not talked about.

Oh My God, I am just stunned by this news. I heard he was ill a while ago but this comes a real shock. Love everything he created, he will be missed.

Seriously, though, that atrocity of a Metallica album notwithstanding, he was one of the all time greats. RIP.

You are the original hipster.

Lou Reed was always just so cool. It's sad to see him go.

Lou Reed album. There's a reason why his name came first. He was the one who approached them.

Is it wrong that the first thing to pop in my head was "Thank god there won't be a follow up project to the Lou Reed/Metallica disaster"?

I don't know how to take that. I've heard hipsters mentioned on this site but living where I do, I'd never noticed any until a couple of weeks ago I saw some strange guys with scarfs, on the ferry to Vancouver. I was more the dirty, bearded, long haired, drugged up hippie. The only reason I knew of Lou Reed was because part of my family was in a band that played (opened) gigs with the Collectors.

As for Lou Reed, he wasn't the typical guy of that eras counter culture. I saw him as more an old rocker with a down to earth vibe of the street culture of the day. He was his own man.

"Perfect Day" was one of my all time favorite songs. I even bought the Trainspotting soundtrack because of it. RIP.
