Default Johnson sells his soul to the Devils

After lengthy discussions, the Leafs and Devils have finally agreed to a pretty big deal today.

To Toronto
Brayden Schenn
Carl Soderberg
Erik Gudbranson
Brendan Dillon

To New Jersey
Tyler Johnson
2015 3rd
2016 2nd
3.25m cap

Probably the toughest deal to make since I've joined the CPHL. I'm a huge fan of Tyler Johnson and it was tough trading him, but this package worked for me. It's effectively four NHL players for one, with three of those still being young and improving while the fourth one is on a decent contract. Having to include some cap for Johnson's new contract isn't ideal, but that was the only way that 3thirty would include all the cheap players in this deal lol. My defense is now pretty much set for the foreseeable future (Giordano-Boychuk, Scandella-Hickey, Gudbranson-Dillon) and adding Schenn/Soderberg gives me more depth and balance up front.

This one is risky for both of us and will surely be interesting to look at in a couple of years. Thanks 3thirty for the talks - it took some time, but it was also a lot of fun!

Good deal for both sides. If Schenn finds another gear then a big win for the Leafs.

I don't know what to make of schenn anymore. Average 2nd line centre ? Rest of the package are younger depth guys that I don't get very excited about. Like the upside more for njd but I can see the risk/reward and sell high for the leafs.

Pure Quantity for Quality on my end. That being said Johnson could regress as I'm paying for a elite player and if any of the 4 players I sent step up it will look bad for me.

For me the biggest question mark surrounds Gudbranson, dont know what to think of him any more. I know it takes stay at home Dmen far longer to pan out than any other skating position, but not sure I see it in him.

Schenn probably stays right where he is at, being a #2 C while maybe contributing another 10 points on a good year.

I am a fan of Johnson. Schenn needs to pick his game up for the leafs to get full value here IMO.

Good to see a big deal like this go down.
