The Calgary Flames appear to no longer require the services of Mason Raymond
So what do they do with him?
We have too many good young players knocking on the door in the minors or even in Calgary – Drew Shore can't seem to get a game in in the playoffs for that reason – so Raymond is just getting in the way.
Is he tradable? Is he bought out? If he is at training camp in Calgary next year I would be shocked.

You would have to trade him for another bad contract I think.

Why? It's relevant. He's a vet who's sitting while the first playoffs in CGY pass him by. This is a young team gaining experience together. Significant chemistry is being forged for the future right in front of your eyes. You don't have to discuss it if you don't want to.

This is probably true. At least he only has 2 years left.
I would kind of like to see how he does in the playoffs for Calgary. Maybe since it's Vancouver, he'll have some sort of spark.
That being said, he only has 18 points in 55 playoff games, which is quite terrible.

It's not really relevant though.
There is no roster limit in the playoffs.
There are however, injuries in the playoffs. And Raymond, like Shore and the others, is an available asset, should he be needed.
AFTER the playoffs, this discussion will be relevant and timely.

He's still a serviceable 3rd line LW. He's a relatively low cost asset that can fill in when another LW falters. I see Ferland taking his spot next year, and simply having Raymond sitting there...waiting...helps push Ferland to keep his spot in the lineup.
The team can afford his contract...there's no issue in keeping him for at least next year.

He'll add depth for the next 12 months then, if he has another terrible year in 15-16, I suspect he will be bought out the last year of his contract.

It's a log jam for sure.
If you look at who's injured, who's breaking into the line up, who's sitting out, and also bring back all the RFA forwards, forwards potentially not in the opening day line up next year are:
Raymond, Granlund, Byron and Shore
Plus, there are still some solid prospects that will push hard for jobs, like:
Wolf, Poirier, Reinhart, Arnold, Agostino, Hathaway

It was a bad signing from day 1. Treliving didn't know what he had in terms of prospects. Bouma elevates his game huge and we sit here today with 5 rookie forwards in the lineup. I am just happy that Hartley has benched Raymond and is going with the kids.
Hopefully this gets dealt with in the summer but it will be a tough contract to move

That's the way I see it also. Flames have plenty of cap space next year and he can be pressbox filler if his play does not improve. Flames could also eat 50% of his contract to make him more tradeable.

Of course the Flames still need his service. Forward depth might become and issue if the Flames go on a long run.

Who is he displacing by having him sit on the bench? I'd rather have Raymond sit on the bench than one of the other prospects. Dealing him does nothing really...the Flames still need somebody to slot in...either as a 3rd line LW or a forward in the pressbox....

Seriously talking about this during the playoffs?? Why? Players are going to be hurt and need support as time goes on. Bring it up in the off season Mr GM

You can never have enough depth in the playoffs, you never know when you may need him and until that day comes he has to be ready to slot in at a moment's notice.

It seems a lot more relevant in the off season when were not in the middle of a playoff battle. At this point where should the focus be? In the off season they can look at their options. Not to mention if we have injuries he might be an important fill in.

It appears that Mason Raymon hasn't provided the necessary level of services for the Flames to require him.
