I'm on the prowl for a new desk in my office, and I was wondering if anyone knew of some good places to recommend. This might be a stretch considering I live in the U.S., but there are some internationally based companies out there that sell good quality furniture, so please don't hesitate to mention anything.
I've found one that I really REALLY like, but it's $600 or so, which I think is quite expensive, so I've basically put that as my spending limit. If I can't find anything I like within the next few weeks then I will probably just dish out the cash and buy that one.
Besides all of that, for the desk itself, the color right now doesn't matter, I'm debating between quite a few, black, a dark maple color (brown), and even a light oak (tan). I'd like the desk itself to have a hutch on top just for more storage purposes, but it doesn't necessarily have to. I'm also very keen to the "L" shape desks, so please send any of those suggestions to me before any others.
Stores I've looked at thus far:
BestBuy
Circuit City
RoomsToGo (don't sell desks I guess )
Office Depot
Savon Furniture/Kanes
Badcock
Thanks guys

IKEA, I got all my furniture there, I have two smaller desks that makes up one big L section in my den, cost me $29 Canadian each and less than half an hour to put together.

If you go with the Brick you might get a free hot dog out of it and won't have to pay for like 9 years!
Ikea a good idea for online purchases, as mentioned.

I forgot to mention Ikea. I looked on their website and I didn't see anything in particular that I liked. They only hae about a page and a half of selection (maybe 10-15 items total) so it wasn't a huge selection.
About Costco, personally I don't know of ANY in Florida. In fact, I didn't even know what Costco was until I talked to a friend in Cali. She thought I was crazy. Apparently they do exist in the U.S., just not by me I guess.
And for a carpenter...heh, that would probably be my last resort. :P

You'd like that, wouldn't you? Perhaps everyone should just boycott dastardly carpenters!
I'd personally go with IKEA.

I have an Ikea deak in my home office and It's great.
It's the Jerker model that allows for the addition of another vertical shelf as well as many side shelves. It comes in Birch, Beech and a nice Black/brown colour.
Jerker Image
The side shelves can be small swivelling ones and you can add a tower caddy for your computer.

Jerker Shelf Extension
The side shelves offer quite a bit of flexibility. I have a small tv on one of them and some music stuff on another.
I added one shelf extension to the top of the desk and bought another extension and used the shelf at a lower level on the desk so I could elevate my monitor off the desktop.
The fact that you can change your desktop height to suit you is also great.
The desk wasn't that expensive and comes with a 10 year warranty.
You can't beat that.

Don't ask me. The person who named it had to be a huge practical joker, or, maybe a pervert?

If you want something made out of solid wood instead of crappy particleboard, check out your local unpainted furniture stores. For $600, you can get something really nice made out of a solid hardwood with proper dovetailed drawers and mortice and tenon construction.
My wife and I just bought this desk:
http://www.unpaintedfurniture.ca/desks/cr448.html.
Most of these places will also stain for you.

I looked at Staples but their selection is rather poor.
I clicked that unpaintedfurniture link and it looks nice. I do indeed want good quality wood, rather than particleboard which is what I have for a desk right now. I saw one that I liked, but not as much as a few others I had seen elsewhere.
