Friedman: Flames looking at Chris Stewart
on HNIC:
the Sabres are looking for a mid level prospect and AHL player
says its on the back burner for the Flames right now. Bruins and Senators are also interested
update:
from Friedman on Sportsnet 960 this morning:
Quote:
Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Monday morning.
On the NHL trade scene:
“I found out on Saturday afternoon that the Flames had kicked tires on Chris Stewart... I’ve heard it had kind of moved to the background there, but I’ve heard the price would not be a lot. Not anything that Calgary would be concerned about that would be giving up a major piece of the future.
“Chris Stewart, for everything about him, he’s a right-hand shot, he can be a power player. He absolutely needs to get out of Buffalo. It’s not working for him. And I think the Flames kind of looked at it and said, ‘Is this something we could use right now?’ But it doesn’t appear as if it’s on the front-burner. But they had looked into it reasonably seriously from what I understand.
Also:
“From what I understood, one of the reasons the Flames were considering it was I don’t think Buffalo was going to ask them to give up anything that they were going to look at and say, ‘We shouldn’t do this.’ I heard it was like a B-level prospect and potentially... an AHL player.
“The Buffalo American Hockey League team in Rochester, I think they’ve won something like four of their past 18 games, so I think as much as anything they want to help them out a bit too.”

Why are teams interested in this guy? It's pretty obvious that he's a player that's never going to get it as he needs constant prodding. Seems like a bad match for the Flames.

Love that Treliving is so methodical. Turns over every stone, examines every possibility.

We already have one player that's not doing much in Bollig, why do we need his sparing partner from the other day.
Unless McGrattan or Bollig is heading the other way, why would you bother

I'm guessing that mid level prospect goes by the name of Max Reinhart too.

I don't get what he brings. Arguably the most lackadaisical player in the league.
Would rather not add any more forwards, especially with the number of young guys pushing so hard.
We need less players like Chris Stewart.

Not the right player to trade for. For the exact same reason why lots of folks don't want Semin on the Flames. Attitude and compete level on the ice. Semin can at least put up 60-70 points while half assing it on the ice.

He probably sat down with Treliving and promised that he was taking this chance seriously and working really really hard.

At least he plays RW
But yeah don't want at all
The fact that he is a UFA at the end of the season makes it even worse

He is too lazy of a player but he has the size and skill to play in the top 9 and will fight. He just doesn't bring it regularly and is not worth much. An AHL player like Setoguchi and prospect like Reinhart is not that expensive but if he is a rental that price is not worth it. He is also risky to sign long term but wouldn't hate it if we made a move for him but not my first choice

no thanks. But if he can be had for a relatively cheap price, I wouldn't hate it. Hartley's a good motivator.

I could definitely see Buffalo eying Max Reinhart in a deal. I would rather move a Hanowski or Agostino. The AHL player may as well be Seto. A motivated Stewart would fit nicely on this team and if the cost is very little I don't see the downside. Another low risk move if the cost is cheap

The only way I could see a trade making sense is if the Flames can pick off one of their great defense prospects. Someone lesser like Chad Ruhwedel would be a great addition. With the Adirondack Flames playing Rochester so much lately, he caught my eye outside of their major names like McCabe, Armia, etc.

I don't know, does Chris Stewart play defense? if not then we don't need him, we got kids on the farm that should be playing, no need to go out and get another guy to take up a spot and do nothing other than hold up the kids from making their mark in the league.
