Default Lance Bouma Sets Career High In Points

Congratulations go out to Lance Bouma tonight, who surpassed his previous career high in points (15) with 2 assists tonight. He now has 17 points on the season.

His 6 goals are also a career high.

Great to see a heart and soul guy put some points on the table to go along with his honest game. Love to see it happen in a contract year for a guy like this.

Flames signed him to a 1 year contract worth $775,000. I think he's earned a good raise from that, and some term with it.

Well done.

Flames said 'show us what you've got'

Lance showed them. While maintaining all the other intangibles that make him a great part of this team. And he's not done yet.

he's not the greatest finisher, but he's been making good things happen when he's elevated up the lineup.

I hoped he would turn into a Stephane Yelle type player, something this team has missed since ... well.. Stephane Yelle left.

He seems to be taking his own path which is great, but there are definitely similarities in the two styles of play. I am very happy with his progress and happy he is a Flame.

A heart and soul player. The next Ian Laperriere.

He's the kind of player a team like the oilers needs. Someone who never gives up and will do whatever it takes. He always seems so focused on the game and what he has to do. I think some credit has to be shared with both Hartley for demanding so much and Gio for being a leader. Guys like Booms make winning possible but never get enough credit.

I don't think we've had more effective bottom 6 winger since Nystrom. Brings energy every night, defensively sound, great shot blocker, and is able to generate chances offensively. Hope they re-sign him.

Really, he should have at least 4 more goals but either missed the net or couldn't get a proper shot off. Not a big fan of him playing top 6 but he does his job and plays a style that gives his all. Can't win without those types of players on the roster.

Lance is so comfortable lately with Monahan/Backlund/Stajan centering him. What I want to see from him to take his game to the next level is to become a Holmstrom type tip-in/screen guy. I feel greedy for even asking, but he just continues to impress and make me see the potential.

I always think of him as a 4th line LW so I don't get carried away, but Bouma looks like he can be a 3rd liner LW as well.

Bouma-Backlund-Colborne could be a great 3rd line over the next couple years, liked their game together last night.

I was thinking this and I think a lot of Colin Patterson as well, he sacrificed a lot for the flames the same way. It is great that Bouma can hit like a truck and stay out of the box, nice added bonus!

Except Bouma's a player I'd actually want in the locker room. Laperriere always came across as a d-bag on the ice and was known as one off the ice as well.

And Bouma doesn't really fight in the NHL. That angry face is enough to deter fights off big checks in the game. Whereas, Stempniak lays out an equal hit and gets rag-dolled by Ference.

TLDR I like Bouma more than Laperriere (and Stempniak).

Bouma defines heart and soul type player.
He doesn't have a high skill set but he always plays every shift that he can the best to his ability.
If the Flames are so fortunate to get into the playoffs he is exactly the kind of player a team needs.
Bouma sits currently 8th for points on the Flames.

I hope he doesn't have a short career... But blocking all of those shots surely takes a toll on you.
