Need RV Rental advice for Dream Ski Trip...

So me and a couple buddies are planning an awesome ski bum trip to Jackson Hole Wyoming for the end of January and we want to rent an RV and live out of it for a week as hotels in Jackson are ridiculous and how much more authentic ski bum can a trip be than RVing it? It also gives us the option to take off somewhere else should there be a dump somewhere else.

Now, has anyone here rented an RV before? Any ideas of what we’ll be looking at pricewise for 8 nights and 2500 KM roughly? I looked at a couple places online and it looks like a 4 person RV comes out to around $1300 for 250 km a day (not enough) and unlimited miles comes out to $3000. Does that seem like a good deal? We were hoping it’d be cheap as it is offseason.

Also for anyone who has rented an RV before, what’s it like? What should we expect to be provided?

This is still in the early planning stage and there is still a good chance that hotels end up being the more logical choice but I’m beyond excited. This is bucket list stuff should we hit a good week snow wise.

Is the RV you are looking at able to be used during winter? You may or may not have running water/bathroom if it isn't equipped to be used during winter.

Honestly, for that money I'd buy one. Keep it if you like it or sell it around May Long and profit. Anybody selling an RV right now is desperate so you'll do okay.

I'm hopeful that the place renting the RV would only rent us ones that will work well in the winter.

I wouldn't hope, I would look into it and make sure.

Canadream for Canada and piercervrentals for the US. Also looked at go-west but it seems like they don't rent for the winter.

I would certainly rent in the USA if you can. You would save a fair bit of money because the rental prices will be cheaper and you also won't be burning as much fuel. Pierce RV in Billings, Montana is quite good. It is a little bit out of the way but still a very viable option when going down to Jackson.

Can you still park RVs in Walmart parking lots for a fee? Or was it changed?

This is but one option. If you or your friend(s) are at all mechanical then get something like this. Spend a few weekends/evenings to get up it to shape.

For a week in winter you are probably going to want to have some power.

Not if you need water and sewer, you may get power in some.

I can't see the RV saving you any money, but it sure could make for a fun, more memorable trip. Gas will cost a fortune, I would expect approx $600 -$800 for 2500km.

I would for sure look at renting something out of Montana, to save money. I also suggest eating here if you like Mexican food (maybe not the best idea for a bunch of guys staying in an RV though). The food was great and the homeade chips and salsa were unbelievable.

Yes spending two days stranded in Dillon MT is exactly how I want to spend my ski trip.

Once you factor in all the costs, I don't think RVing is ever the answer when you're looking to save money. But it sure sounds like a great time...if you get along with the people you're RVing with.

Looking here at their website I see quad occupancy rates of $916 per person for 7 nights and 5 days of skiing. I can't see an RV being anywhere near as inexpensive, and more of a pain than anything else.

Driving a dually tire RV in the winter on crap tires, let along everything else mentioned above? No thanks.
