Default Dedicated Sound Cards

Anyone still using these in their new PC builds? I'll probably be doing a full motherboard/cpu/ram upgrade in the next year after Windows 10 hits, and my old SoundBlaster X-FI is getting long in the tooth. So is it worth it to upgrade to a new card or has the quality improved enough in the built-in sound on new motherboards to make it moot? I've got a nice Logitech 5.1 setup for my PC so I value sound quality quite a bit, but simplifying my next build would be nice

The onboard sound is good enough for most people. I was getting some interference so I bought an external card, and I'm really happy with it.

As a bonus it has a headphone amp, although because it's only USB 2.0 it doesn't have the power to drive higher impedance headphones.

The new goggles also do nothing.

I got the newer SoundBlaster Zx but mostly because I wanted the nice volume control that has both sizes of headphone jacks in it as well so I can use my other headphones instead of my gaming set easily.

Can't go wrong with a trusty Sound Blaster 16 card, love the way midi and .wav files sound.

Have you tried out the new Gravis gamepad? Buy now and get Commander Keen for free.

I'll have to give it a whirl once I finish Jetpack.
