That is going to be a really bad signing in 3 years.

Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika
Lightning got Stralman for $7.5 million less than Capitals got Orpik over the same five-year term.

Good pick up for Tampa. I always hated the fact we got rid of him for nearly nothing.

That's a reasonable contract. I would've been happy if we signed him to that!

Right but let's be clear... this is far more "LOL Washington" than "Pat on the back Tampa" even though I have no objection to the contract overall.

Payday for Anton! Good for him.

I'm not sure Tampa will be happy with this deal 3/4 years down the road though.

Even in 3 years, I don't see Stralman dropping his play off at the age of 30 that this becomes an anchor. Great deal with term and price. Would have loved the Flames to have gotten this instead.

Wow. Probably the worst contract of the day. Stralman is only effective in certain situations, with the right partner. In other cases he is an unmitigated disaster.
EDIT: Forgot about Benoit's deal. That one is worse. Edmonton is no good.

Knew he was a Flame for oh so short amount of time, but thought I was losing my mind when I couldn't find his stats as a Flame. Problem solved:

2009-Jul-27 Traded from Toronto Maple Leafs with Colin Stuart and round 7 pick in the 2012 draft to Calgary Flames for Wayne Primeau and round 2 pick in the 2011 draft (Brandon Saad)
2009-Sep-28 Traded from Calgary Flames to Columbus Blue Jackets for round 3 pick in the 2010 draft (Max Reinhart)

What possible basis could you have for this?

How do you feel about Ryan McDonagh? Because the following is an accurate statement: The Rangers scored more frequently, and got a higher percentage of chances compared to their opponents, with Stralman on the ice last year than with Ryan McDonagh - 2.4 goals for per 60 minutes for Ryan, 2.6 for Anton.

Let's look at a list of star players: E. Staal, Malkin, Bergeron, Kessel, Crosby, Ovechkin, D. Sedin, Hall, Giroux, Pacioretty, Toews, J. Thornton, Kopitar, Toews, St. Louis, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Tavares, Parise, Backes, Seguin, Ladd, Getzlaf and Doan. Against these players, with McDonagh on the ice, the Rangers got 47% of the shot attempts. With Stralman? 53%.

I think Ryan McDonagh is pretty good. Stralman significantly outplayed him.

His kid was born in Calgary!

I wish we had kept him instead of trading for a 3rd.

So did I, at the time. But the fact that the 3rd became Max Reinhart takes the sting out of it for me.
