I think Niskanen/Boyle could possibly be landing in Tampa.

Damn, Stevie has to have something cooking.
It's my understanding that because he was bought out by the Rangers, that Richards could be signed now instead of waiting until July 1. I wonder if Yzerman is planning on making a big free agent splash on June 30?

Making room for Spezza's contract?
TB wanted a big centre. I believe Spezza is one of the bigger ones that have been rumoured/on the block as well as available in UFA.

Steve Yzerman must never see his family. Sunday night, past midnight in Tampa, right after the draft.

According to capgeek the Lightning have less than 8 million in cap space for 4 forward roster spots. If Stevie Y is panning on making a big splash on July 1 he's going to be moving some more contracts as well.

Dang, StevieY copying Florida's blueprint? Signed some expensive free agent one time then start getting rid of them the next.
I really think Yzerman is preparing to make some splash comes July 1st Free Agent. I wonder who they are targetting? Iggy, Boyle, Niskanen, or bringing back Lecavalier or maybe Spezza or Joe Thornton via trade??

Ohlund will be put on LTIR which will make 3.6million more in cap space

Also nate thompson's contract is still showing on capgeek's site in addition to the Ohlund's LTIR that is 13.2 million to sign 4 forwards.
Lightning have some young forwards pushing to make the club so 1-2 of those forward spots could be taken by rookie contracts.

pretty sure they'll try to sign Niskanen. They still need help on their blueline and could use a right-handed defenseman. In addition they'll now have space to add another center.

So going by the picks acquired, Nate Thompson was worth more than Sam Gagner, even with 1/3 of Gagner's salary retained.
Thompson: 0.22 career ppg
Gagner: 0.63 career ppg
And Thompson is 5 years older! Is anyone else laughing? I sure am!

no. There's been a change in the last CBA, I think this was done to prevent teams from using bonuses to reach the cap floor (like the Islanders did with Niederreiter a couple years ago). Bonuses only start to count against the cap once a team exceeds the cushion of 7.5 percent of the salary cap. So with a salary cap of $69m, teams have a bonus cushion of $5.1m. Even if Drouin (whose max bonus figure is 2.3m), Namestnikov, Kucherov and Vasilevski all make the team, they'll be far below that figure.

The performance bonus cushion allows teams to exceed the upper limit with performance bonuses to a maximum of 7.5 percent of the upper limit. For example, if the upper limit is $64,300,000, teams can exceed it by $4,822,500 in performance bonuses. Any performances bonuses in excess of that total do not fall into the cushion and are counted as part of the team's cap payroll.
Any performance bonuses actually earned at season's end (ie. for games played, awards, all-star teams, etc.) are then added to the team's final cap payroll. The catch with the cushion is that if the bonuses earned at year's end push the team past the upper limit, the overage is carried over as a penalty the following season.

I find it funny but I am not surprised... Thompson is a beast and a warrior. He will do great in Anaheim..
Gagner is probably just happy to be out of Edmonton.

So, in summary(correct me if I'm wrong), Yzerman has:
Good
Picked up a 4th, 6th, 7th.
Got rid of Purcell
Bad
Had to retain 1/3 of Gagners contract
And of course, this probably means he will shift one or two more out to make a big move. I could see Spezza or Thornton being a target. Don't think he's done too badly so far.
