Jonas Gustavsson will be back with the Detroit Red Wings for a third season.

General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press today that "it appears we've agreed to a one-year deal."

Gustavsson, 29, was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, but both sides were interested in extending a relationship that began in the summer of 2012. Gustavsson is coming off a two-year, $3-million deal. His extension is expected to be in the same $1.5-million ballpark.

Good signing. Was hoping he could be the Flames back up.

Flames should try to sign Tom McCollum to an AHL deal. He'd make a good one two punch with Ortio for the Baby Flames next season.

A lot of the potential fixes for a backup are disappearing off the radar before UFA day. I'm not too concerned right now, but I was hoping for a more established and consistent NHL ready player than one that we're likely to get at this rate. We may have to rely on Ortio after all.
