Icon35 Islanders acquire rights to Dan Boyle for a conditional pick

Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday
#Isles have acquired rights to D Dan Boyle from the Sharks for a conditional 2015 5th-round pick. Becomes a 4th if Boyle signs.

Interesting. Let the changes begin! This is going to a fun summer for trades and free agency.

Makes sense. The Isles got Halak, and now are trying to shore up their D. They are going to try and win next year and Boyle will contribute to that if he signs.

I could see Moulson returning and with a healthy Tavares the isles should at least push for a playoff spot

Definitely in win now mode, making sure Buffalo doesn't get that great of a position in the 2015 1st.

If they can't sign Boyle, would they be interested in Wideman?

Personally I doubt it, speculation is the Islanders moved Moulson as they were aware the player would not re-sign.

They'd probably try to land a different UFA on July 1st first.....if that fails they might.

What would they want for a retained Wideman? I would love to trade Wideman for some defensive prospects from them.

for the all bashing that Snow usually deserves, he has done well at the start of this offseason. Two 4ths for Halak and Boyle? Not too shaby. If Boyle signs, of course.

I can see why they tried Boyle first, as his acquisition cost was a lot less than what Wideman's would be.

Also, I don't think they make this trade without talking with Boyle first to gauge his interest.

If they miss out and it was cheap, I could see them looking at Wideman

I actually think it was the other way around. They traded him because they had no intention of re-signing him. Moulson wants to be on the same team as Tavares but Snow didn't want him.

I can't see Boyle signing in Long Isle.. I honestly think he is Detroit bound.

Lots of great young D for him to mentor there alongside Kronwall.

A bit off topic, but I wonder how much longer Tavares is willing to stick it out in Long Island before he starts demanding for a trade.

Would be pretty big for the Isles of they can sign him. Interesting move.

I still think Boyle signs with the red wings. He seems like their type

Can't fault the Islanders for trying but I just can't see Boyle signing there unless they are offering considerably more money than a better organization is offering.
