Anyone else follow Derby at all? My wife got into it and on to a local team this year, and I've started following it more and more. Suffice to say, I've fallen in love with the sport.
For those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, I suggest you check out this Wiki article and learn some more about it, any maybe try to catch a bout or two online, or better yet in person.
I've gone to a few bouts as of late, including one last night (which my wife had to sit out as she is Fresh Meat(AKA a rookie), and had some teeth pulled) and I've gotta say, it's particularly brutal. A Jammer on my wife's team took a high hit and got her bell rung, hard. The ambulance had to be called and everything. Sadly, the RTRG (the wife's team) ended up forfeiting the bout. It was absolutely intense though. I partially lost my voice from yelling so much.
I've looked up some bouts from the Calgary Roller Derby Association, and I definitely recommend you guys check it out. The CRDA seems to be a few steps above the WKRD.
Also, there are some beefy ladies, but there are some good looking ones too and they wear tights, and shorts, and skirts. It's pretty awesome.
EDIT: Here is a good bout. Nice hits, and some really nice technical moves throughout. Don't mind the length...

That is something that really turned me off of Derby at first, because it reminded me of the staged theatrical "wrestling" style derby my sister used to watch. Flat track, in my opinion, is more entertaining that banked track due to the fact FT is real.

OK fellahs, I require some assistance. I need a derby name, as I'm going to be taking my officiating test in the coming weeks. I wanted Smashdaddy first of all, but it was taken. As was Commander, which is a work nickname. My wife is named Smacky Kennedy. I was thinking about something JFK related, but that might be a slight conflict of interest. I probably wouldn't be allowed to ref her bouts anyways.
Anyone have any ideas for a derby name for myself? If someone more clever than I can incorporate my actual name (Brook) I would be very impressed.
If anyone is so inclined, the can cross reference with the RDCA or Two Evils. (I'm on my crappy phone which won't let me copy and past URLs at the moment. I will re-edit to compensate for this in a few hours)

Are you going to be an evil referee, favoring your wife? ignoring low blows etc?
(I know its not staged, but giving a referee a phony name makes it seem that way)
Maybe be a evil former east german ref and change your name to Gunter

The wife doesn't approve of any of those names. I like Lee Harvey Oddsmell, but the wife has the final say. I applaud the creativity. Much more impressive than mine.
