Who should the Flames select with the 4th overall pick?

Went through the last couple of pages and didn't see this thread, so here's the question: who should they take?



I'm assuming that they don't win the lottery and that the consensus #1-3 picks are gone: Ekblad, Reinhart and Bennett. If one of those guys falls to 4, I assume the Flames will take him. The question is, who do they take if those guys are gone?

1. William Nylander: top end skill and ridiculous skating, a bit undersized at 5'11 170 but not tiny.
2. Kasperi Kapanen: Reportedly has hockey sense as good as anyone in the draft, and the speed and puck skills to back it up. Also a bit on the small side though.
3. Leon Draisaitl: Over 200lbs and has great vision, although he isn't a super physical guy for his size. Seems to have consistency issues sometimes. Certainly has every possible tool, though.
4. Michael Dal Colle: Not as much high end skill, but the best 2 way player of the bunch, very physical and hard-working. Already 6'2, which doesn't hurt his Burke-rating.
5. Someone else? Haydn Fleury? Jake Virtanen? Julius Honka? Probably not Julius Honka but I just like saying Julius Honka.

Any of those would be a damned good pick up... Which would you take?

No idea - whoever the Flames scounting staff think is the BPA after that.

Or Reinhardt. Or Draisaitl. Any of the four would be amazing.

I think the Flames should pick the player who will prove to have the best career when compared to each and every player taken after him in the draft. With luck he'll also be better than one or all of the players taken before him too. Unless the Flames win the draft lottery, then they shouldn't worry about that last bit.

"I didn't like the players we thought should be available from 4-10 and I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted Bennett, Reinhart or Ekblad more than the others, so I did some trading to upgrade the 4th pick into the 1st three picks. Now we have all three. I'm a problem solver that way."

Posted this in the other thread... If for some reason Reinhart, Ekblad, or Bennett are still available at #4, you go with one of those. If they are all chosen, my preference is
1. Dal Colle (power forward, safe to pick as BPA)
2. Ritchie (power forward, with a lot more higher risk, but possibly a better pick than Dal Colle
3. Draisaitl - I don't think Burke likes him that much, but I wouldn't mind him on our team.

Would really love Edmonton to screw up their #3 and to pick him to allow us a chance on Reinhart, Bennett, or Ekblad.

Trading down and adding a pick for 2015 wouldn't be a bad idea either. There is a drop in how good the prospects are after the top 3.

NOT Draisaitl or Ritchie. Anyone but them. Draisaitl has bust written all over him and Ritchie should not be taken at 4.
