Canine Dental - Good Dog Dentist Options?
I am hoping with all the dog lovers here that someone can point me in the right direction...
My wife's 5 lb yorkie needs some dental work. No teeth pulled, just a good cleaning. Our vet has said they can do it, btu the dog must be put under (makes sense). The range of pricing is $800 to $1,100!
I might as well buy a new dog for that money.... (I kid, I kid...)
Are there options in/around/outside of town that are significantly cheaper for doggy dental work? I have heard rumours that places in small towns outside of town can do it for a third the price of the big city vets, but don't even know how to begin looking...
Any suggestions?

The prices are going to vary from clinic-to-clinic because of variables like overhead, staffing, hours of availability. People will recommend out of town vets because of the lower costs.
If costs are an issue, considering purchasing insurance to offset costs on procedures.
Hope you find a situation that works for you.

Is there a part of the city/outskirts you're leaning towards, or will you drive hundreds of miles for some savings?

I'll drive 100km to save $400+, sure... I was thinking like around Airdrie or okatoks? I was hoping to get a flavor for who people had used and weigh the distance vs. The cost savings.
The money isn't all of it either - if people have a vet they love who does dental cleanings and who's affordable, that's my dream answer... I don't want to save every last dollar, just save a few bucks while getting a good cleaning....

Check with Dr. Miranda Bourque at Foothills Animal Hospital Okotoks.
Can't say what it would cost but we've used her for more than a decade. A place to start.

I think you will find most of the smaller centres south of the city will have vets so google things like "veterinarian Turner Valley" or something and start dialling for dollars in the morning.

I'm not sure if you can find anyone around Calgary that does the anaesthesia free teeth cleaning, but I was thoroughly impressed. I got it done in Phoenix for about $150. I was about to pay around $600 to get teeth done in Calgary, but between the cost, no anaesthesia, and the results, I was very glad I tried it.

Cochrane Vet Clinic. 3/4 Less than what we were quoted at the Airdrie Lazer Vet. He wanted almost 1500.00 that did not include if there were teeth that needed to be extracted.

How did this work out for you? Who, where and how much did it wind up costing you? I'm in the same boat now with my 10 lb Morkie.

From what I've heard crossing the border is the way to go, you'll probably save 50-75%. Doggie dental is one more thing that Canadians get bent over on!

I have heard second hand that the Canine Companion Clinic in Marda Loop does this for around $400. (Heard it from a client so I can't verify that).
Before I knew that, I used the Due South Animal Clinic in Mackenzie Lake and it was just a tad over $400 2 years ago. Lots of places quoted me $1000+ back then...

Prices definitely vary from city to outskirts, you should make a list of all the dental clinic around which are economical. Buying a new dog is not an option as you short of develop an affection with the old one. Hence, think of alternative ideas, like, Best Pet Dental Care Kits for Dogs which generally includes finger brush, toothpaste, chews, gums etc, which are generally affordable than visiting any dentist.
