The Flames iced a decidedly disadvantaged hockey club tonight that featured two pugilists, three college forwards playing their first half dozen games apiece, a rookie third defense pairing, and a goaltender that is used to backing up … in the American Hockey League.
Boy that sounds like a great movie.

I like the way Hartley is giving Colborne and Monahan PK time and just generally giving rookies a chance. To be fair though the Sutters were criticized for not giving rookies a good chance, but they were fighting for playoff spots.

Hartley also plays the #1 goalie against the best team in back to backs. This always bugged me when Brent would start Kipper against the weaker team and we watched as it backfired. To me, he was telling the team that he had no confidence in them against top competition.

I really liked Agostinos 2nd intermission interview on SN when he talked about adapting to the NHL speed, and realizing that yes, it's much faster than college, but he still has time to make a play out there. You could tell his comments were coming directly from the coaches and video review/being scratched, and that he's genuinely excited and eager to learn.

What an awesome team we have!

Bryce Van Brabant followed up a big step last night with another step tonight. He was on the ice for 12.30 of time, was plus one, had a huge hit and was very involved in the play. He’s never going to be a true top six forward, but he appears to have more game than I thought, and could play a great role riding shot gun with skill players.
I really like BVB. He plays like a bull in a china shop out there, and with decent wheels he could be really effective on the 3rd line. Some great power moves & positioning along the boards. He's the kind of guy that needs to be out there making room for the smaller, skilled guys. Great signing.
