Default Nathan MacKinnon breaks Wayne Gretzky's record in Avalanche win

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/03/07...-avalanche-win

"The assist extended MacKinnon's point streak to 13 games and broke Wayne Gretzky's record for longest point streak for an 18-year-old. Gretzky set the record during the 1979-80 season."

It surprises me that Crosby didn't surpass that. 102 pts in his first season.

And this is why some of us might not cheer so hard for wins at the end of a season. As happy as I am with Monahan, two more meaningless losses and this guy would've been ours.

I always cheer for wins these days. Cheering for losses has no place for fans of a team.

The difference is I don't get upset by losses like I used to.

I cheer for games where we don't get out worked. The outcome doesn't matter.

The fact that it's a Gretzky record makes it relevant. Don't be bitter.

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong, the Avs clearly picked up an amazing player, but these stats like point streaks for a right handed 18 year old don't really mean all that much, other than more re-assurance about what we already knew...........he's a special young player.

Opps, quoted the wrong post. Not bitterness on his part, it's just a stupid stat. Doesn't matter if it's Gretzky's or not. Call me when he breaks some of Gretzky's actual records that matter that aren't wittled down to the point of irrelevance due to precise birth date.

First left handed nose picker to get a minor penalty in 5 consecutive periods.

I've seen the kid play live a couple of times, and he really is something else.
