NHL practices resume Wednesday. Also have to think Ramo is not quite ready yet (edit: forgot Berra is probably making his way back from Sochi)

MacDermid was also suspended by the Heat 2 days ago per the AHL transactions page. No word as to why yet.

I'm glad Breen got a long look as promised during his last call up

When the coach obviously doesn't think you're ready, no sense in getting called up again just to not get played.

I agree but Burke was adamant that he wanted to see what we had in Breen and that he deserved a long look. Guess the coach and gm don't see eye to eye on this one.

Yeah I was at least hoping to at least see a few consecutive games. But maybe the coaches saw something in practice they didn't quite like

Maybe Berra can stop in Norfolk on the way back as the Heat play there on Friday . Would like to see what Ortio has to offer as I don't see Berra staying here after the season.

Could've been a general NHL look. I know a lot of analysis goes into practice and that sort of thing, so maybe that was enough?

Who knows really. I'll take his promise of not telling Hartley who to play over him saying he wanted a long look at Breen, but it's still kind of dumb the guy only got 6 minutes.

Waste of a 6th round draft pick on MacDermid.

If these count as roster days, they may not have wanted to burn them off of Breen's recall just for practice days. This way, he'll also get game action for Abbotsford this weekend.

Suspended by the team meaning what? He's no longer part of the roster for the remainder of the season? Indefinitely? He's now a FA?

The Heat haven't released any information.

As of now he still has a valid NHL contract and would need to clear unconditional waivers for it to be mutually terminated.

Everything else is speculation.

happened two days ago ... if it was something drastic we'd surely have heard about it by now.

MacDermid being suspended by the team could be anything. Could be as minor as missing curfew on the road (if they have one), to missing the bus to the rink, to something more serious. Without any details it's just to hard to speculate.

All we know if MacDermid was scrathed Saturday and Sunday and the team had a long bus trip due to weather. So it's safe to assume something went wrong between them leaving for their road trip and the end of Sundays game.

I heard that Sven was getting jealous about Breen's call up time. Sven didn't see how Breen had earned his call ups and how he hadn't earned his spot with the Flames, so to keep Sven happy they called Smith up instead. Figured Sven wouldn't compare himself to Smith as much given he's not a rookie, but word is it might not have made a difference.

Apparently Flames are looking to make sure they sign Gaudreau and send hi to the minors to prove to Sven that other prospects that are highly touted also can be sent there......more to follow. Burke was quoted as saying, organizational priority #1 is to manage Sven's feelings.

Coaches can still get a limited read on players from watching them execute in practice.

I'd suspect when they called Breen and gave the speech about his chance they didn't expect Smid to be back so soon.

Going to speculate on the MacDermid suspension.

He went from the NHL, to the AHL, to the 4th line of the Heat, to a healthy scratch, to suspended. He took a pretty clean nose dive this season.

Not too long ago the Heat bring in Trevor Gillies. They didn't have room for him, they weren't getting particularly roughed up (they are actually a decent sized team). It was a strange move to sign him at the time, but with the suspension it starts to make sense.

Something seems like its been festering for awhile. If they can't reconcile, oh well. Free up the contract for a prospect.

I'm not worried about the 6th round pick. Culkin, Gordan, Kulak, Gillies, Jankowski, Gaudreau, and Arnold all need* contracts this spring. That's what i'm interested in.

*ya, i know they don't all NEED them. But Gillies and Janko playing for this small school with no support is starting to get old hat with me, and Gaudreau is ready for pro and even if Gordan is meh, he's still worth an ELC if Elson is...

MacDermid is a pending free agent they got for a freakin' SIXTH rounder. The risk for him was incredibly, incredibly low.
